Ok...before I start I'm going to say this: I am aware most of the story is not actually in game. For most people the Grimoire cards are in very poor taste. I had no problem reading them but many of you do and that is understandable .
That being said it is RIDICULOUS to say that Destiny has no story. Quite to the contrary, Destiny has an insane amount of content. It may be fragmented and up to interpretation at times, but overall the lore is very well crafted. It is the part of Destiny I criticize the least (still eyeing you Crucible). The tales of Old Guardians and their accomplishments, the history of each enemy faction excluding the Cabal currently, and even to a lesser extent the weapons.
And then I could end most arguments about lore with two words: TWIGHLIGHT GAP. That Battle alone changed so much. It saw Zavala elected to Vanguard because Shaxx refused and instituted the Crucible. Saladin was forced to step down from the Vanguard but honored through the Iron Banner. The rise of the Thunderlord and birth of the Gjallerhorn. Dredgen Yor slaying Valor. The Reef Wars, which in turn leads to the ENTIRE House of Wolves DLC. Osiris being exiled. I could go on a lot more.
My point is that you shouldn't just criticize a game for lack of story because you don't like to read. Is the story perfect? Heck no. Does it have holes? Yeah, sometimes big ones. I'm just trying to put out that the lore is one of the better parts of the game, if not THE best part....ok, that last bit was opinion, but oh well.
BTW, if there are any story holes or gaps you wish to address, feel free to let me know. I do enjoy discussing the Destiny universe.
Edit: Wow...already so close to the trending Category...Thanks guys. I enjoy hearing what you have to say, either agree or disagree..and yes, to a lesser extent the haters too.
Edit 2: Shadow Artiste and metdevil brought up excellent points about the difference between lore and story. However if you take the definition of each, both apply to the grimoire. This result in an awkward case where the grimoire is both lore and story
Edit 3: Trending now. Thanks everyone. I'm finishing up my classes for the night and will respond to you guys ASAP.

Sixclicksにより編集済み: 2/17/2016 6:30:29 PMYes, the game's lore is great, but it's story is still terrible. Hopefully Destiny 2 next year won't make the same mistake. Story is not the same as lore. The story this game tells is barely existent.

5 通の返信Graystashにより編集済み: 2/17/2016 2:12:43 PMNOTE: This is not an attack on you but an observation. First I love to read, it is my favorite pass time. Even when I play video games I usually listen to audio books. But this game does not have anything coherent that is worth calling a story even lore because it is of such low quality that reading the ingredients list on a candy bar is better than the garbage that is in the grimoire. What passes for story in the game is a incoherent mess. The grimoire cards are badly written and incomprehensible at times. I think you may be looking through rose tinted glasses to consider the lore in this game "intense": Or you may mean something else by that word. We know almost nothing about the central characters that define the universe and nothing about the current state of the solar system beside a few very narrow areas. Earth is a lot bigger than a city sized area and so is Mercury, Mars and Venus by what is implied through some very vague hints. We have no clue what the motivations are of anybody beside: fight everyone that is not a guardian or a race that might be a guardian . We do not have a coherent understanding of the timeline either. What you consider good lore/story is your mind filling the gaps in-between the small tidbits provided by the game and the grimoire because they cause cognitive dissonance. Some unwanted advice; please read some books and then consider the garbage that passes for lore and story in this game. If you want a definition of good lore I recommend The Silmarillion by JRR Toliken if you have read the Lord of the Rings books, if not read them than read The Silmarillion.

1 返信BTW, the game doesn't have a story, the cards do and they aren't available in the game, so you can't say the game has content, when you have to be outside of it to see it. That's like going to a restaurant and after ordering your food they tell you to eat it outside and pay upfront before eating it, you ask why if the food is given by the restaurant, why can't you eat it inside, and they tell you that the restaurant wasn't made for eating the food, just to order it and take it somewhere else, so pretty much you went to a restaurant to order takeout. The cards are the game's takeout, you find them inside but you can't use them in the game, they pretty much aren't part of the actual gameplay.

VisageOfAnAngelにより編集済み: 2/17/2016 4:43:09 PMDisclaimer: I'm a professional writer. Destiny has no real story. What you are insisting is the story (Grimoire Cards) of Destiny is not actually contained in the game. If I sold you one of my novels ($20 for the first 15 chapters and $1 per chapter for the next 30, of course) and told you "Wait, there is a story! You just need to access another form of media that has no direct relationship to the novel and then you can read scattered "torn pages" that are on there. After you do that you can pay an additional $40 to watch the episodic (only 1.5 episodes per year over the span of 10 years... scratch that, apparently I'm not selling well enough for 10 years. I never had a 10 year plan, understood?) television serial that will summarize the entire experience.

Himothyにより編集済み: 2/17/2016 6:12:32 PMI wonder what happens next, considering our Guardian has what's left of Crota AND Oryx.. Will we become more resilient to the Darkness, if not a medium with the potential to channel it through us or our weapons, on a scale Toland only imagined to reach? Will the call of the Stranger take us to Osiris, who may strike us with this realization?

SeneschalGrigoriにより編集済み: 2/17/2016 6:11:28 PMI agree the story is pretty cool but I'm not going to search the internet for it. Same way I hear the lore behind the Dark/Demons SOuls is pretty good but I'm not going to search the internet to find out about it. I'm not saying I need CGI/Cut Scenes but at least put it in the damn game itself. I don't care if it's something as simple as a Codex like FF XIII does.

I, like most people, only include the story content that can be accessed in game. If it is in the grimoire, I do not count it as the story even though it sheds some light and relative insight in certain events. In the game, there is not much story. Outside the game, there is plenty.

Destiny does have a story... It's not told yet. Players are free to think what they want. Even people at bungie don't have a clue about story. The writer of the game is fired a new one is hired to write grimoire cards. Then another one and another one... Still today I haven't figured out why fallen are fighting hive in cosmodrome. So I stopped and jumped down from my sparrow and asked one of the fallen, he said: I don't know. All I know is that DeeJ said it's a good idea. Destiny is a great game, no doubt. But it certainly suffers from lack of story, mystic and mysticism.

BigDaddyE47により編集済み: 2/17/2016 4:15:40 PMI ran a VoG yesterday for old times sake and I was talking to my team about Pahanin and Super Good Advice during the run, mind you these are all experienced players with 1000s of hours in the game. Not a single one of them knew a thing about it - didn't even know who Dredgen Yor was, for me that's 100% on Bungie, they made a ton of fantastic lore that isn't in the game where it belongs. I love Bungie, I love the game but they screwed that part up.
My point is that you shouldn't just criticize a game for lack of story because you don't like to read.
I enjoy reading, a lot, and also enjoy playing video games. Even enjoy reading books about video games, Halo comes to mind. Do I fancy collectible cards on my phone or computer, outside the game as something to make me want to know more about "OMG, what the heck did I just do, and why?". Nah. Grimoire as additional info for the ones interested in deeper lore, something like Codex in Mass Effect, totally cool with that. Grimoire as the bulk of a puzzle story outside the game? Nah.
