This is interesting.
Personally I enjoy the story of Skollas, or well his theory....
More or less.
Skollas ordered his fallen house to attack Oryx, only to be duped that it was only a "beacon" to communicate with Oryx.
(Which is why the fallen were "invading" the hell mouth and near the shrine)
And seeing that there was no threats here, Skollas and his fallen wolves remained silent because of all the commotion with the travellers guardians and the Vex, then a dispute with Crota.
Until finally after seeing Oryxs son get killed, Skollas proposed a proposition to the queen that Crotas father would be in our galaxy to wage war on us with his son, whom at that time said that the Vex threat being gone, this galaxies bigger threat was gone.
And that the taken and hive will take over.
So he wanted to get the queen and fallen to band together to face off against the serious threat.
That turned on him after they called him crazy and didnt believe him.
Since the vex were weakened without their 2 gods, he was tryna take there tech and take more fallen for his war against this hive army coming to our galaxy.
But we stopped him because the queen and Variks assumed him to be insane and power hungry.
When in yet he was only trying to protect his queen and fallen.
Which is why the Queen new where and when to attack Oryx, but under estimated his power.
Well his power with the ship...
I enjoyed that theory, it's way better to read rather then me explain, but it's great, really shows how much potential the Destiny universe could have and how deep and dark it could get.
Skolas and the Wolves never got to the moon before Crota died. The Fallen house on the Moon is house Exile, not Wolves.
After the Great Machine (the Traveler) abandoned the Eliksni (the Fallen), and a cataclysm known as the Whirlwind (likely the Darkness) destroyed their world, they came to the Solar System in search of protection from the Traveler. The Wolves were originally planning on coming to Earth to help the other houses defeat the City and regain the Traveler once again, but the queen stopped them by waging war on them when they stopped at the asteroid Ceres. The queen used her Harbingers as weapons, and the kell Virixas died. Skolas took his place, but they still lost the war despite Skolas' extreme brutal tactics. The Wolves have been enslaved by the queen, and Skolas has been in prison until he was given to the Nine as a gift.
The Nine released Skolas for reasons that remained unknown, and he gathered the Wolves once again to rebel and fight for him as he tried to unite the houses. By that time, the Shrine of Oryx has already been shut down, and the Crota was already killed by guardians.
Also, Skolas (understandably) hates the Reef, and had no intention of helping or saving him. Read Ghost Fragment Fallen 3, it's written in the perspective of Skolas, and it's very powerful emotional speech with lots of history. He really really hates the queen and the reef.
We gathered to fight against our twilight, King and Devil and Winter, all of us but us, the Wolves. Why? What kept us from the Gap?
The Reef. The Queen. The slavers who played us against each other and docked us into subservience. These sly sterile un-people, these mirages with cold minds twinned to their own, these Carybdis butchers, they set us against each other. She played us. She made herself our Kell.
[...]
Ask them my name! Ask them with the shock blade and the shrapnel launcher! Ask them with the skiff and the ketch! Ask your masters by what right they master you, you who have been hardened by centuries of flight, you who inherit the Whirlwind! Ask the Queen for her throne!
When he did use the Vex gates, he saw the future with Oryx's arrival, and he did tell Variks and the queen about it. He did not know about it prior to using the Vex gates.
He says..." Variks hisses under his breath. "He makes no sense, my Queen. He speaks of...Light-Snuffer. Dark-binder."
The Queen aims her eyes at Skolas, her expression unchanged. "I see." (Queen's Ransom)
As for why the queen was prepared for Oryx, this is actually a result of planning with Eris and Osiris. So Eris (a hunter without a ghost) met with queen Mara Sov to get her help for stopping Oryx.
"You don't have one." The Hunter came to a halt in front of the throne, raised her covered face to meet the Prince's gaze. "No," she agreed. "My next death will be my last." [...] "[...] I will do anything—" her low voice shook with passion— "to end Oryx." [...] A silence rang out in the room. The Hunter kept her head raised, her ambiguous gaze directed at the shadows in the throne where the Queen reclined. Then a small smile curved the Queen's lips. "Well said." She straightened, and leaned slightly forward so the room's light fell on her face. "So let us end him." (Ghost Fragment: The Queen 2)
In the Taken King's opening cinematic, queen Mara Sov says this:
You and I know how this ends. We've known since you escaped from that... pit. [...] This was all part of the plan. Guide them, my Hidden friend
Eris is the only one we know escaped from a pit. She said this before in Crota's End cinematic.
Six of us went down into the pit. Only one crawled out. I am Eris, the last. I have seen what the Hive call a god
We know that Eris part of the Hidden (Ikora's spies).
Eris returns to the shadows time and time again, operating as one of Ikora Rey's Hidden—a clandestine group of Guardians tasked with silently infiltrating enemy strongholds and gathering vital intel for the Warlocks. (Crota's Bane)
So it is clear that Mara Sov is speaking to Eris in the cinematic, and not Oryx as the visuals would imply. Anyway, this explains who Eris Morn was talking to at the end of the Taken King's Regicide mission when she refers to someone as "my queen."
