THANK YOU Bungie for acknowledging our search.
Yesterday, those Guardians who had successfully foraged for crucial weapon fragments began the chase for the widely-anticipated Sleeper Simulant. The revelation of this new Quest was described as “awesome” by some. Others of you, who skipped meals and lost sleep on the hunt for the elusive Heavy Fusion Rifle, were not as pleased.
The response to Sleeper Simulant was humbling because we did not predict the community reaction. When we try new things, players often teach us a lesson about how to do it better, and this one has us thinking hard about how Quests communicate their availability. Our challenge is balancing between the secrecy that makes these hunts exciting, and transparency that could spoil the fun for the hunters. As long as the community is giving us feedback, we’ll keep seeking the ideal balance.
I still argue that 'time-gated content' is not the same thing as 'secrecy'.
-----
Please, we just want answers.
Here is the problem.
1. At TTK launch this gun was hyped as the 'Gjallarhorn 2.0'. It was a big deal. The first articles about this gun specifically said that there was a mystery quest to unlock it, and we would have to FIND IT by collecting relics and 'unlocking the gunsmiths memories'.
2. Bungie went along with this for 3+ weeks. They remained mostly silent, but they kept dropping hints like 'we can show you the door' and 'the truth is out there'. They led us on the whooole way. THEY MADE IT SEEM AS THOUGH IT WAS ALREADY AVAILABLE.
3. We over at /r/searchforthesleeper spent a LOT of time and effort during those 3 weeks trying to find this gun and unlock it for the rest of the community. We thought we were getting close when this happened...
4. Bungie releases the mission as time-gated material with NO mystery of how to unlock it. It simply shows up. That's it. The search is over. Our entire community was invalidated overnight. All of our time and effort was WASTED.
See why we are upset?
A whole community of gamers spent weeks searching for this thing. We thought we were doing the community a service by finding this gun that EVERYONE wanted. You tweeted about it, articles were published about it, the hype was real! "We can only show you the door...", "The truth is out there"? ALL of us had fully expected to be able to FIND this thing in-game, and then today you come out and release it as time-gated content? WHY would you do this? I can understand that you want to prolong the game and release content over time, that makes sense! But why would you purposely keep us looking for an item that WE CAN'T GET? Some of us put a lot of effort into finding this thing, only to find out that it was all wasted effort.
This has left some of us feeling really sour about the future of the game, especially if all of the upcoming content (and the remaining exotics) are going to be time-gated rather than actually hidden for us to find. There is no mystery in waking up to a free mission, there is no challenge in being given the answers. Why did you take this great potential and throw it all away?
Please, we just want an answer as to why it had to turn out like this.
Why didn't you just tell us we were wasting our time, like you did with the Basketball Court guys? Why?!
EDIT: Everyone keeps saying we chose to do this without them making us. THAT IS TRUE, but it was heavily implied THE ENTIRE TIME that this gun would be available through in-game events such as hidden secrets in daily heroics. Multiple tweets, articles, and even the Weekly Update pointed to this being the case. I wouldn't have had any problem with the way this turned out if they hadn't done that and led us on
EDIT2: Thanks to everyone for the bumps and trying to bring some attention to this issue. THE SLEEPER HAS BEEN "FOUND". Not really found, more given to us, but the search is at last over. We had a lot of fun looking for it, learning the lore, and now finally getting the gun. We're a bit disappointed that there really was no need for a search, and the lore surrounding this gun was not brought into the quest at all, and the quest was quite frankly garbage, but that's behind us now.
After all of this I doubt we'll get a response from Bungie, or if they do say something it will just be along the lines of "We don't want to spoil in game secrets", but I still believe that creating hype to find an item that literally cannot be found is a betrayal of the trust of the community, and I hope this doesn't go unanswered.

3 通の返信You don't speak for all of us. I don't need answers, I don't really care how I ended up getting the Sleeper, I'm just glad that we can get it.

4 通の返信"Some of the puzzles will take more than one guardian" Yeah, literally. I thought it was gonna be some super tough puzzle I would do with my fireteam members, like the Thorn Strike. But nope, it's a stupid public event.

1 返信I would rather wait a month from now with the community finding it, than Bungie giving us it. Then the hype would be real when it was found

2 通の返信MrBraveHeartにより編集済み: 10/8/2015 7:51:51 PMWho said it was jelly horn 2.0? And no one that googled how to do the quest should complain about it becomes you would have no had a clue of what to do without the internet. Act like sheep, get treated like sheep.

3 通の返信LEAFSreborn555により編集済み: 10/8/2015 7:49:43 PMYou idiot no one from bungie stated it would be gally 2.0. Its the god damn idiots that hype it up (you and everyone like you). Oh by the way it doesn't just unlock. You need all 4 relics. It unlocked for 2 of my 3 characters. Because my hunter only has 2 of the relics.

5 通の返信nuttybuddy7により編集済み: 10/8/2015 7:42:08 PMThey made finding a stupid ghost somewhat of a search and challenge. A ghost of all things, which only gave rep! The relics took no skill to obtain as they were just random drops, and then the mission just appears. I thought they would take something that was hyped so much more seriously

3 通の返信A lot of people commenting kind of forgot that these are the same kind of people that painstakingly weed through the cryptic bs and find you the hidden items in the first place. Your emblems, side quests, codes, locations of fragments, puzzles, etc. They willingly spend their free time scanning their copy of the collectors edition and share it with the rest of us that didn't want to spend the money. Run through missions over and over to discover hidden side quests. Give these guys some slack for doing the dirty work so you could do a simple google search with no effort on your own part. This would be like playing Zelda or Castlevania 2 without Nintendo power dropping hints if these folks weren't around. I can definitely sympathize. If you want to throw these guys under the bus then I expect you to find all the hidden items on your own. Good luck with that.

2 通の返信Oh please. Stop acting like that group was high and mighty. Every bit of real information you guys had was datamined from modded previous-gen consoles. Half the shit you guys were going on about was absolutely ridiculous. Like do you really think they'd hide something behind binary code on a console in a daily heroic mission? Seriously?
-
Bungie didnt have to and still doesnt have to answer to anyone on this. Everyone went off on their own and are just bitter. Get over it. They never told you to look for it. And there is prerequisites to getting the quest...the relic pieces. So yea...

I totally agree with OP. As much as I am enjoying TTK and how bungie have introduced quests/hidden secrets(black spindle), the whole sleeper simulant thing was done all wrong in my opinion. What I feel they should of done was made it so that it was a very hard secret which would take an entire community to crack in order to gain the gun but had it in there from day one. The buzz around this community whilst searching for the simulant was really refreshing and bungie have just kind of burst our bubble by showing us they are time locking stuff away from us. Hopefully this isn't a regular thing.

4 通の返信Bungie didn't lead you anywhere. You dumbass overly excited tinfoil hat wearing nerds lead yourselves on a ridiculous wild goose chase data farming and etc. That's your own faults Cry more

3 通の返信This is something that I've tried to correct for a lot of people. Bungie never stated that the "Sleeper Simulant" was "Gjallarhorn 2.0." That weapon is the currently unnamed satellite looking heavy that shoots the payload shtuff.

How about you shitbags stop data farming and wait for things to happen......Even after this was found as a mission no one solved it, someone data mined all the quests and codes before they were available. There are groups of hackers that go data mine destiny every day at reset hoping new shit pops up. If anything..... You're ruining this for the rest of us
As much as I would like to agree with you (i am pretty disappointed in the end results of how we got the Sleeper Simulant). I would like to point out that they only dropped these very ambiguous "hints". These hints could have been for other stuff in the game. These quotes do not support your argument for 2 reasons: 1. People chose to interpret these words as "hints" however they liked. Ex: you chose to interpret it as Bungie "leading you" I was thinking it was in reference to the ex-hidden door in the King's Fall raid 2. The reality of some of your quotes (ex: "we can show you the door") is not even the whole actual quote. This is the whole tweet by Deej https://twitter.com/DeeJ_BNG/status/649704607199793152. If you follow the tweets, I don't think it was even an actual hint I cannot/will not support your argument in this post. Bungie is not responsible for what people do, so if people feel like they needed to look for the Sleeper Simulant when it was not even released yet, it is definitely their own choice and Bungie is not obligated to answer you. I feel like you just misled yourself and now you want to blame it on Bungie. If you provide some more solid evidence (rather than your vague "quotes") that they actually misled that. I will totally delete this post and send you an apology and support you 100%. But as it, I find this argument very misleading.
