EDIT #4 In less than 24 hours this board, where there's a lot of people expressing fear their voices wouldn't be heard in different and often times colorful ways, has garnered 642 comments the last time I checked just a few moments ago. It is the fastest growing post on Bungie.net that's not authored by Bungie itself. Furthermore, it has had more activity in less than 24 hours than some official posts made by Bungie itself have gotten even though they've been up several months.
OUR VOICE IS BEING HEARD I PROMISE YOU THAT FELLOW GUARDIANS.
KEEP IT GOING. BUMP IT. TWEET IT. LINK TO IT IN YOUR CLAN FORUMS.
ROCK THE VOICE!
EDIT #3 Everyone who is deriding this post should go on the record saying how they would have handled it.
I again ask you the question:
If you were in that conference room and two plans were laid out how would you have voted?
Plan A: Simply offer more compelling choices. If some goofball wants to use a year 5 level Doctor Nope (much at his own detriment in finding a willing raid or trials party), why shouldn't he be able to do so? This plan will invariably lead to much more diverse builds and gun usage.
Plan B: We can't trust them. Even if we offer more compelling choices, they may be too dumb to realize it and keep using that damned Found Verdict we designed 4 years ago. Let's just effectively take all the old guns from them, or even better: We'll let them keep 'Em but they'll be useless outside of patrol. Every time they open the vault, they'll have that bittersweet reminder of HOW WE MADE THE DECISION FOR THEM
EDIT #2 Will you go on the record saying of the two archetypical solutions to gear stagnation:..
1. Simply offer more compelling choices. (You'll have better guns you use much more than your old favorite hand cannon, but you could still use Fatebringer if you wanted to. You make the decision for yourself).
2. Draconian Gunicide. (Fatebringer is dead, and you'll never be able to use it with any degree of efficiency in any meaningful endgame content. Bungie makes the decision FOR YOU)
That you actually prefer for the decision to be made for you?
EDIT #1
I didn't say I would no longer play the game. I will cancel my preorder in protest but in all likelihood I will ultimately buy The Taken King prior to launch.
I made this post as a protest because I believe this is a mistake. When the House of Wolves came out, Bungie said they would never invalidate the work Guardians did the way they invalidated the work of Vault of Glass raiders when the Dark Below came out and suddenly there was better gear for sale in the tower. Back then, the official line was that they learned from that and acknowledged it was a mistake to invalidate our work and disrespect our time and efforts.
How is it that just 4 months later it's no longer a mistake?
I feel like this is doubling down on a weapon Gunicide policy that DIDN'T WORK THE FIRST TIME and required the creation of Etheric light to fix the mess it made.
How is it that an even more egregious even more wholesale Gunicide is now en vogue once again?
ORIGINAL POST
I've been a huge Bungie and Destiny fan boy since day one. I've spent hours enjoying the game, the lore and exploring the mysteries. If you look at my past posts you'll see I've been very active in the community and have tried to pass along any mysteries I uncover.
However, all of these charges purported to be in the Taken King have just gone too far.
If you feel like I do, that making 90% of our arsenal obsolete is a mistake...
THEN...
Please leave your declaration of protest re: the decision to make our existing arsenal obsolete, devaluing the in-game rewards of our year one experience and disrespecting the time we spent as one of the Year One Guardians who were amongst the first pilgrims in the world of Destiny.
Stand up for your guardian. Stand up for all the work you did. Stand up for your GALLY. Stand up for your Fang of Ir Yut. Stand up for your Fatebringer.
WE, THE FOLLOWING GUARDIANS DECLARE OUR PROTEST of the decision to render our existing arsenal obsolete; the decision to devalue the in-game rewards of our year one experience and the decision to disrespect the time we spent as one of the Year One Guardians who were amongst the first pilgrims in the world of Destiny:
Signed,
Superman Corps and the following Guardians who make it clear they sign as well...

I'll take plan 1, just because I don't like being told how to play a video game, I wanna play in a way that's fun for me, and it irks me because of all the customization and options we were promised with destiny "Build your legened" should be replaced with "Let Us Decide And tell you how you WILL build your legend"

Maybe Bungie will incorporate a new feature on Destiny that will "greatly enhance" randomly selected Exotics each week. This would make "fixed" exotics very useful during the week and be fun to breakout a long forgotten year one gun (Ghorn) in year 6 to relive the awesomeness some of us enjoyed this year. Doing a simple thing like this would keep a lot of us grinding to get every exotic year after year and those guns that don't get an upgrade will still be fun to use if they are in a random list of a few guns to get the weekly exotic boost (WEB). To waste the word exotic on guns that basically are as functional as ships is dumb. To allow us to break out an old exotic every once and awhile to enjoy for a week would be cool. They really need to hire some visionaries to quickly identify and pitch solutions that may or may not work. Maybe they'll get lucky again and solve an issue that was basically impossible a few weeks ago, you all remember... vault space can't be increased due to last-gen systems... Abracadabra!

I for one embrace these changes. I was excited with the twitch reveal. I like progression and change. I love Destiny but I haven't played any except pvp lately because I am bored with pve. TTK is offering a wonderful system with new weapons and armor, all with new perks to explore. The game is gaining depth. Bungie is learning and evolving. There has never been a game quite like Destiny. The first year was great. I am anticipating an even better second year. Out with the old and in with the new.

I in no way feel like the decision was made for me. Do I love using my Fatebringer? Yes I do. Do I look forward to it becoming a weaker choice? No, I want to use the gun. Do I think that a year one gun should be able to stack up to year 2 content? No, this expansion is about change, both in narrative and gameplay. I love my old guns, and I will miss using some of my favorites, but I also know that what's coming in year 2 will be just as fun to play. No arguments about older being better here.

After 11 months of not having a Gjallarhorn and now having one that's not maxed out, I can tell you that it shouldn't have been in the game. As soon as I unlocked Wolfpack rounds everything melted. It's the easy button. I can understand people who have lived with it for almost a year fearing it's departure. But it's really for the best. "Make a good boss mechanic!" Gjallarhorn overrides every single boss mechanic. Melt every boss before the mechanic can even take effect. They say "We are nerfing Gjallarhorn!" We say "Still gonna require it and 3400 grimoire!" Guess what happened next. Everyone can cry that what they are doing is ruining Destiny but we as a community are forcing their hand. They made a shared world shooter that was supposed to help us make friends and forge bonds that has instead become yet another elitist shooter. The next LFG required gun will be the next nerfed gun.

12 通の返信Coming from the perspective of an avid MMO player, you Desticles are being ridiculous. This happens in online games with content that evolves via expansions. The old gets left behind in favor of new, more exciting options. You lose the sense of character progression (which I believe Bungie is trying to finally establish in the first place) if all you do is pay a pitiful amount of materials then suddenly have all your old weapons and armor be viable in endgame content. I would understand if the weapons people were crying about had lengthy and difficult quest chains to achieve (Thorn is probably the hardest in that sense, and it's pretty easy and nonengaging), but no, everything people are crying about are weapons that have been broken the last year and make the game too easy. The only attachment people have to the guns are using them to make content easier, and that's a pretty terrible reason to want to bring those weapons into new content.

2 通の返信You know how everyone feared for the destruction of computers following y2k? Can we call this fear of our exotics being destroyed 'yttk' ?

9 通の返信Old gets left behind for new, destiny players clearly know nothing about MMO's (which is what destiny is trying to be like). There are so many new weapons in TTK, so many new exotics, why is it such a problem to go out and get the new gear and weapons that are going to be in the game? Your fatebrinngers time is over, your visions time is over, your gjallahorns time is over, they have served you well in the past year and you should hold onto them so you can tell people who start playing years down the line that they were the most powerful weapons of their time & talk about the memories. Also a comment I might add is that bungie is making this choice because it is their game, not ours. Bungie developed the game and it is their choice to do whatever they want with it, we give feedback and tell them what we would like to see and buy their content, bungie have the right to do this and if you don't like it and want to quit because of it then please, by all means leave but stop trying to drag down others who don't feel the same way as you do.

18 通の返信Brimstoneにより編集済み: 8/21/2015 4:46:30 PMclearly you never played a MMO and never had to experience anything like it. In Final Fantasy XIV I spend almost a year - 5 main story patches - to enhance my relic weapon. Now with the expansion Heavensward that weapon is useless. And the community wasn't butthurt and tried to enforce their will of being able to upgrade it further. So please, be a bit logical, look forward to the new cool stuff you'll get and enjoy it. Or keep crying for something that's not gonna happen.

I don't think Bungie understood at the time the full effectiveness of things like the Outlaw/Firefly/Arc Damage combo on the Fatebringer. If they want players to actually have to make a decision about what weapon the are gonna use then they need to make guns that live up to things like the Fatebringer. I am not saying every weapon should be that good, just that there should be guns in the game that are the same caliber, that are worth lusting after. Stopping me from being able to use the weapon I want, just because, is not how I wanna see this game develop. If I wanna use my Fatebringer as my main primary PVE weapon for the next 10 years, that should be my choice

3 通の返信Shame on Bungie for having the audacity to strong arm players away from certain weapons by intentionally not allowing said weapons an upgrade path. WE are the players, WE should be able to make the choice as to what weapons we like to use, NOT Bungie. Whether you like the changes coming or not is irrelevant, the point is that Bungie is over-stepping by taking the choice out of the players hands. On a completely side rant, does anyone else feel like they've been playing a beta game for the last year? Almost like everything we've done in the last year has just been a big trial and error scenario, and that the upcoming 'expansion' encapsulates much of what the final product should have been in the first place? Anyhow, I've been done with Destiny for the most part for a while now. For those of you that are sticking around, I hope you enjoy the new content! :) EDIT: Halo: Combat Evolved, the very first weapon you receive is the pistol from Captain Keys nearly 14 years ago, a weapon that is still in use today by players in Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Just food for thought.

The Loathsome Dung Eaterにより編集済み: 8/21/2015 9:57:19 PMBump. I don't want he decision made for me. Who was it that decides which exotics carry over and which don't. And what is the reason behind it? I feel it's because no one uses their new exotics. They have sucked for the most part since vanilla. Now instead of us making the choice, they force us to use what they want us to. I don't like it. IMO, either all exotics come to year two or none do. Don't choose for us.
