Myself and my partner are a gaming couple and I have noticed her get harassed in the past and had to step in. But a couple things I have noticed are that (1) she keeps seeking out and playing with these same jerks intentionally. Many of whom are on her friends list. (2) when this happens for long enough she claims that it's all males she runs into when I'm not around. So this leads her to not even try to find new people. (3) after I convince her to block these players and find try other teammates her experience improves dramatically. The point I'm trying to make is that sometimes we poison our own experience with gaming because these toxic people are reliable. We play among thousands of people, there are always alternatives and every player is replaceable. I'm not saying this is what's happening with you, but you may want to think twice if you've let these people onto your friends list.

Everyone will attack anyone online regardless of anything. It's not a new concept. It's an issue that for some reason people have recently attempted to connect with unrelated topics such as gender, play style, or even the sound of a persons voice online. As I'm sure that these factors contribute to a certain degree, it primarily depends upon how people act in an anonymous environment. There isn't any hope of people being nice to each other in environments such as the ones in question. As long as people have a feeling of anonymity online, you can't expect or even hope for this concept to change.

I'm honestly slightly offended (Not an easy thing to do) at this gross generalization. I have never, nor will I ever harass a girl gamer for being a girl (anything else goes, same policy I have for guys) , and I bet you'll find that this applies to most people. The ones that are sexist are the immature kids who think it's funny because they can harrass people over the mic and the other person can't do anything about it.

For me, it's when they use gaming to have thirsty people for attention or profit instead of legitimately enjoying gaming of any kind. This is especially apparent when we see female streamers that only play FIFA or Call of Duty, having webcames set up just to see their boobs and receiving over $1000 donations because of their looks. Few streamers and YouTubers actually provide content without having their looks controlling their channel, such as Ms5oooWatts, Laced Up Lauren, lolRenaynay, and so much more. Sure they're beautiful women, but that's not their focus; their focus is on the game that they're playing. A huge controversy covered this point with Smash Bros. Icon Sky Williams addressing this situation, but then blew up to a huge scale argument with other female streamers such as Kaceytron and previously mentioned lolRenaynay, being covered on websites such as Kotaku. Men have a prejudice outlook on women that play video games because we're unsure if they're saying that to gain attention rather than being dedicated gamers. Not to mention the countless controller selfies with women being almost being naked with a controller covering their tits all across Instagram, Facebook, generally any social media outlet has these people that do this.

Superiority complexes. They're scared that they'll be outperformed by a girl. Honestly it boils down to every day sexism and it's just plain annoying

Most men gamers don't this. It's mostly all the annoying little pick barely in high school who think it is funny.

Off of what someone else posted, gaming is all about winning, feeling good about yourself, [u]being superior[/u]. Whether it be calling someone a nogger, a fag, or telling a woman to shut up and make a sandwich, it's all about empowering oneself, and since you can do it pretty much anonymously without repercussions of being racist or sexist in the real world, this is what happens.

I have been gaming my whole life, I'm 24, and I can honestly say I've never seen this. My clan has a dozen female gamers of varying skill levels and they are treated exactly the same as male gamers. If they do great we celebrate with them and provide kudos. If they mess up we call them on it, joking insult, and provide feedback as how to improve. I see this issue as another sensationalized exaggeration of a diminishing problem.

I'm a guy. I have 2 girl friends who play games. Even over internet, my friend list is male and female. I play with guys when serious or sometimes girls of they wanna hear me rage... Or girls if I just want some peace and quiet and non stressful gaming experience. I play with both genders and am happy. Nothing wrong.

It's great women are getting into gaming. Absolutely brilliant. As for the problematic guys... There are men, and then there are asshats. Sadly a few of us are the last one. Wolf whistles, pick up lines, etc aren't exactly a big deal and I'd recommend just dismissing them straight away, or even take them as a compliment and feel good about yourself if you can. If it gets annoying and you're sick of it, leave the game. If they're being are being utterly nasty or sexual, leave immediately and report them. Also, one tip. Find a clan. There are many clans accepting of gender, race and sexual preference so it might be a good way to put an end to this sort of thing. Best way to do this is in the recruitment forum. Ask for a clan that has no issues with playing with you and won't do this sort of thing. Be prepared for a little salt in the forums but you hopefully will find a good one. That's about all I can think of really. Wish you luck in all your endeavours. In game or otherwise.

Because it goes both ways, it just seems like it's only men to women because their is a high male to female ratio on online games. If it were the same you would see it both ways

Honestly I think it's fun to play with girl gamers they're usually funny nice and as good as us guys it's just that some people are disrespectful

Well i dont, the last female on xbox i played with joined my party and i actually was really interested in college, so i started asking her questions about it and what not... Lets just say now she is one of my closest friends lol
