Dear Dames of Destiny,
While I do not normally watch the Destiny Bungie Bounty streams, it recently came to my attention through the My name is Byf video (which I have included in this post for anyone who happens to be curious), that your part in the Bungie Bounty was met with almost constant sexist and discriminatory remarks. Normally, I don't make threads of my own, only reserving that sort of thing for what I consider important, and this is the third thread I've made on the Bungie forums, period.
As such, I feel a few things need to be said.
First, to the Destiny Community:
It comes as no surprise to me that there is still a hateful attitude towards women in gaming, but what did come as a shock was the fact that people were willing to show that hate and discrimination so publicly, without any apparent shame for it. I realize that the Internet and Online Gaming, in and of themselves, promote anonymity, and in turn that gives people the power to say whatever it is they wish. That power is often coupled with complete irresponsibility and total unaccountability.
That is no excuse, and is unacceptable.
The fact that I have to type this in the first place disappoints and sickens me, but I suppose it has to be reiterated: In a video game, the gender of the player does not matter. It should never matter. Neither should race or place of birth. Discrimination as a whole is wrong, and should never be promoted. As such, anyone who sees what happened to the Dames of Destiny, and approves? You are not a part of my Destiny Community, and I want nothing to do with you. If I seem like I'm parroting Byf's video and the points he happens to be making, it's simply because the point deserves to be hammered home.
Second, to the Dames of Destiny themselves:
For those of you who read this, and I sincerely hope you do, I want to say on behalf of my part of the Destiny Community that I am truly sorry that you had to see, experience, and have to endure that kind of utter bullshit. And I am sorry that over the past decade, it hasn't seemed to have gotten noticeably better.
I hope that from this point forward, you have to deal with less and less discriminating assholes while you play online, regardless of whether or not it happens to be Destiny. And I hope that, despite everything that happened during the Bungie Bounty stream, it does not deter you from staying strong as a part of this community.
Sincerely,
Texas Joker 52, esq.

Sexism, racism and general bad behavior is everywhere on the Internet. It's a stark glimpse at what humanity is really like without consequence

People are so sensitive these days. Everybody gets offended. This was a moderation issue. There's rude people all over twitch of course having a bunch of girls playing is gonna draw all the trolls out of their caves. They should hand out permanent bans on twitch. They don't do that because they will lose money. This is a simple case of twitch not being able to control chat good enough.
-
I don't entirely know the situation but I know that if I was playing Against some girls on destiny and was beating them I would talk mad shit too. It just makes the game more fun lol. And you can't call me a bully, all you have to do is turn off your Xbox or leave the lobby.

It's honestly disappointing to see so many people bashing OP by calling him a "white knight". What's wrong with him apologizing? Sure, he wasn't directly involved, but that doesn't mean he can't feel bad about what the community he is a part of said. Sure, he's not a girl, but what difference does that make? Being a guy doesn't mean that he can't apologize for the flaws in our community. Yeah, sure It's the internet, and everyone gets insulted, but that doesn't make what people are doing right. Go ahead and tell him to grow up. The one that really needs to grow up is you. Just because he is willing to say what you won't doesn't mak him immature. The true immaturity lies in those of you bashing him because you don't like that he's standing up for what's right. Go ahead, and try to argue against everything I say. Go ahead, and post some hateful comments. Go ahead, and call me immature, and throw your salt everywhere. I don't care. I'm not going to argue with you because it would be a pointless waste of time. With that, I end my tangent. May the salt guide your way, Alex~
Warning! Incoming salt!
-
Didn't realize one guy speaks for the entire community. Why do I even have an opinion?

You white knights are funny. Pathetic, but funny. The internet is full of petulant children who say unrepeatable things to people just for the lulz. Is it the way it should be? No, one would hope that people could be as civil online as you would expect them to be in real life. However, that is the way it is. No matter what your gender, race, religion, orientation, identification, or shoe size is, you will have to deal with it. If you can't, then consider not participating in online interactions where trolls are present. I'm sure the Dames are quite experienced dealing with these trolls, and if they are actually about what they say the are about, then they don't need you to apologize and stand up for them. They realize the trolls are just trolls and the best way to deal with them is to not feed them. As sincere and well written as this "apology" is, you must understand that it comes across as pathetic and thirsty.

Women belong in the kitchen; not playing video games obviously. just the fact that they have two X chromosomes makes them subject to such a role. Quit trying to be a white knight you're not getting in anyone's breeches by posting this.

I love how you keep reiterating that gender shouldn't matter, yet here you are making a post about gender. Trolls are trolls. You're the one making this an issue about sexism in some -blam!-ed up way to make yourself feel better about being a social justice warrior.

It doesnt matter who it happened to, what matters is, is that it did happen. And it shouldnt happen at all.
Uugh its the internet stuff like this always happens.
Being on the internet is no excuse for you to behave that way. Just becaue it happens else where, it does not give you a valid reason to act in such a way.

Now I really don't care about this "sexist" nonsense but the above was to illustrate a point. Welcome to the internet where no matter if you are male or female people say stupid shit (your post included) why do you really think anyone cares about your "apology" people who apologize for other people do it to make themselves feel superior. An apology from you even if it was warranted means nothing. Just like the faceless text that was typed about the dames. Who cares white knight? I'm sure you guys take this more seriously than the Dames did. To mirror forum phrases Git thicker skin scrub.
