Before y'all go all rageface on me I do understand the reasoning for the current system that prevents players from joining at the boss and so on. This is just a suggestion to further develop an idea the developers had.
My idea:
PoE will be based around a Ticket and marker system, similar to whats going on with trials.
Starting:
When you enter PoE you take a ticket which will hold your progress through it as you complete waves and return to the airlock.
During the Game:
As you progress through the waves and return to the airlock the ticket will be marked off, thus giving you the checkpoint for that next section.
Leaving:
If you leave for whatever reason you can restart the activity and have the option to use the checkpoint on your ticket.
Other players can only join you if their tickets checkpoint location is the same or higher than yours.
Ie A player on wave 3 cannot join a player on wave 4, however the wave 4 player can join the player on wave 3.
Completion:
On completion of the boss wave and claiming of the reward the ticket will be destroyed.
Joining:
As mentioned in "Leaving", A player joining a group must be holding a ticket with a checkpoint location the same or higher than the group they are joining. If this player cannot join said group because his checkpoint is lower, the group can opt to leave and join him on his checkpoint.
Summary:
This will still address the issue of players not playing through the entire process and skipping to the end, it also means that players that get kicked on boss waves or in the treasure room wont be so hard done by, as they can just rejoin themselves.
It will remove the whole "ERR MAH GERD I GAWT KICKD AT SKOLAS ND DUN GET ST00F #RAGE_FACE" thing that happens alot, hell it happened to me the other night, I wasn't that sour about it but its still discouraging.
My boyfriend and I were talking about this last night. Our logic was that since this was intended to be sort of the raid substitute with the House of Wolves, why not allow us to have some sort of checkpoint? Hopefully Bungie sees this and agrees that this is a great idea!
