If you think I need to play Trials to critique it, you're wrong. I have 2 eyes which watched the trials reveal. I'm reporting feedback on the mechanics shown, I don't criticize what I don't already know. This seems to be the #1 argument, that I need to play it to give feedback, which is simply illogical in this case.
Trials is a joke on competitive gameplay.
For those who don't know, Trials of Osiris is essentially a 'One-Life' PvP experience with reviving. There's five rounds to win and if a team is wiped they lose the round. That's basically how it works, although it's majorly flawed. The concept is astounding and impressive, the details are where you figure out it's not all that great.
Major flaws
-You can use super abilities. This means Blade dancer, Golden Gun, Radiance, etc. And you keep it after death. One golden gun, triple kill, boom. Round over. What's the fun in that? Eventually everyone will have their supers too by round three. How do you think 6 players all just trying to end the match by using Golden Gun is competitive? Or have three Sunsingers who just radiance after they're dead for additional lives in the Trials. How is this competitive?
-Heavy ammo spawns after three wins. On Burning Shrine? 12 Rockets per team (Plus additional clown cartridge rockets) and you only have three enemies? Okay so I guess I'm just going to spam rockets down the lanes on Burning Shrine hoping I get one. So will my buddies I guess. That's competitive apparently.
-You spawn on the same DAMN SIDE EVERY TIME. If blind watch has taught us anything it's to not capture A if you want to win. There are maps that exist that are one sided and rely heavily on defending map control. Burning Shrine is literally the quintessence of a one sided map. Whatever team that spawns on beach the entire game has a huge advantage. All they have to do is hold beach. Three entrances, sun behind them blocking people from sniping them, and tons of cover and head glitches that exist on beach. This isn't fair one bit.
-There's level advantages in the Trials of Osiris? Power Matters? This is supposed to be competitive, how is that supposed to exist when there's level advantages? Level advantages make the game unfair. Most good PvP players know they should have a separate armor set for PvP and PvE. Why? No one cares about the perk, "Replenish more super energy from killing minions of the Darkness" in the Crucible. It's unnecessary. Now everyone is going to be running around in PvE raid gear for additional damage by being maximum level.
-I'm also kind of disappointed in the system of how rewards work. There's no award for not dropping a single match? There should be an emblem/shader or something at least that is given if you win all 10 games with no losses. Just my opinion. Give players a real reason to want to win, something highly exclusive. It's hard to win 10 games in a row with your team against teams trying equally as hard. Reward your players Bungie
This is something you shouldn't consider when evaluating my post, although it's something I feel would be better.
You search matchmaking based on best connection too, confirmed in the twitch broadcast. That's great and everything, but why not make it search based on difficulty also? It's a competitive rewards system. Competitive isn't about searching random players every time. Rank it. Players who are continually winning 6 games in a row should only play other players who have won 6 games in a row. Make players work for their rewards.
Good quotes:
"Unfortunately, I must agree with you. Level advantage, above all, removes any notion of "pure competition," as do unavoidable nuke one-shots (i.e Nova Bomb, Fist of Panic, rockets for a whole damn team). These seem especially against the spirit of pure, balanced competition when you consider that you have only one life. So if you get blasto'd by those nigh-unavoidable rockets, well, tough shit. Better luck next time. While I am most likely going to dip my toes in to test the waters, Trials of Osiris does not seem purely competitive to me at all." -Gris

"I agree. 3 Golden guns will be impossible to counter- besides that one lucky blink/backstab in the face move, but against a good team? Yeah... okay. You best believe I will just spam 12 shots with my buds down their spawn point just to win the final round like an ass. It's literally just allowing people to abuse the most abusive things in the game? First off heavies shouldn't of made it into the gameplay at all. Why do I need 120 HMG bullets? Guess I'll use rockets lol. I'm glad you are professional enough to call them out on its flaws. 'Best part' are level advantages; as you said I have separate gear for each kind of game type, I'm not looking forward to doing the prison of elders 100+ times just to get discipline and strength maxed.
P.s *Ranking would of been the best thing to implement into this kind of playlist too, would of been so much more intense.*" -I TheHologram
TwoSizesTooSmallにより編集済み: 5/5/2015 6:27:29 PMWell, I've never thought burning shrine was one sided towards holding the beach. Have had countless matches where that tactic was tried and they were wrecked. Chances are that if one team has at least one super ready, then the other team will have a super ready. Even still, I sort of agree that supers could make a match lopsided, but I don't think heavy weapons should be all that much of a problem...considering that each side will have a fair chance at getting theres. Even with all that said, making things lopsided for a round or two I think makes things interesting. A blade dancer could use his super one round with a decent chance of wasting it while trying to attack a slam ready titan. Given that mostly all of the 2 stat armor in the game has Intellect...both teams will probably have their supers ready around the same time. My thinking was that they've probably tested this enough to release it, but that remains to be seen. I don't think it's fair to judge this without playing it first. I get that you think that you can with what you know about the game, but Trials of Osiris deserves a fair shake before slamming it. -EDIT- As far as level advantages go, Bungie has called this their end game PvP. In other words, you better have everything maxed before you go after it.

1 返信I think it'll be more competitive than you think. Supers can be countered with a unified team.

2 通の返信You think you have it bad?......just imagine how us pve players feel.....at least they are trying with you all.

Bump. I also made a post on connection status's, if that can't get tackled ie: dedicated servers or as such, the new DLC competitive content will be a huge "win" for anyone that shows up "red-bar", right from the beginning. Therefore in my opinion the forums will get stacked with connection complaints on a TofO biased reason. If anyone wants to argue that with an intellectual response, its always welcomed, wise arse comments will just be ignored.

hm... I think you should actually play it first. Then you can critique. I hate PvP, but this actually has me interested. My 3 person PvE static all on one team vs. some other team. This will be interesting

Tzoednにより編集済み: 5/4/2015 4:32:47 PMRadiance won't be too troublesome because around the time that the sun singers are getting this the other team will be close to their own supers. Big picture this will likely even out overall. 12 rockets, sure, but both teams will have them, and they don't carry over, so again this cancels out. Level advantages won't be a problem since all gear can reach the cap using etheric light. People can still have a pvp and pve set, although now they can both be 34. Spawning on the same side I agree with though. Almost any other type of competition switches sides, even indoor completely symmetric sports do this. Should alternate sides each round.

Well if you have enough skill then you will find out that it's not hard to stop a super. Set up a trap with your teammates. Lure the enemy around a corner and drop some grenades beneath their feet. If it's a blade dancer make sure you have some distance and good aim. You will be fine.

1 返信I will agree with you on the point of supers, as things like GG, Arc Blade, and Fireborn Radiance will be quite irritating. The heavy will be an issue for one round, but that's all it is. A straight up one round heavy fest. We'll have to wait and see how troublesome the other points are in the Trials itself

1 返信It doesn't spawn you on the same side everytime. That was because there want matchmaking for this demonstration. This only shows how dumb you are. Closed.

2 通の返信KrazyM82により編集済み: 5/2/2015 1:34:48 PMYou forgot the biggest flaw! During the live feed it seemed to be laggy...as usual...meaning I noticed kills in which the person doing the shooting didn't actually hit the person he was shooting, only nearby or close to...not on every kill, but I'd say about half. And the best part!....pause for effect.................................................................... That was a lan party!!! What happens when it goes LIVE over the Internet with an almost inconceivable array of varying internet connections!!! ToO is going to be a joke just like the crucible! LOL, as best!

R00KIE GUYにより編集済み: 5/2/2015 9:58:40 PMThese are my thoughts to your points: 1. The newer maps that Trials will be played on, what it looks like more balanced maps first of all. Burning Shrine is a one time thing because they don't want to throw us a random map and gametype and stress is out a little. 2. You do get rewards: •3-5 wins gives you passage coins, strange coins, motes of light, and/or etheric light •5-6 wins a random piece armor and above •7 wins gives you a primary •8 wins gives you special or heavy weapon •9 wins is unknown (Fate of all Fools bounty?) 3. I do agree with super thing. 4. Heavy ammo is a one time thing the entire time and disappears after the round. Even if you have extra in reserve. 5. Every piece of legendary armor can get you to level 34 and you only need to be 32 to be competitive with them. And all new vendor armor can get you to 32 immediately.

I only agree on the fact that there's always something that can improve in a new expansion, but I have to disagree on several points that may have been missed. 1. If there is an advantage to holding the beach to win, then just wait 2 mins for over time to hit then it's whoever captures the middle in the next 30 seconds wins and holding the beach would be pointless. The other thing is that the maps will be switched weekly so you won't be on Mercury every week. 2. Level advantages shouldn't matter because everyone can ascend armor to Lvl 34 using ethric or whatever it's called. It won't just be raid gear by the looks of it.Sure some people will the the short end of the stick, but that'll happen in any game. 3. You might've missed some details on how the cards work, it's not 10 wins without any losses, it's 3 losses and your card is done. So getting 10 wins with no more than 3 losses is easily doable with the right team. It's also not a once a week thing, they said in the twitch you can go back to the reef and get a brand new card so you can enter the trials as many times as you want, the 3 losses only erases your previous wins. P.S. Not trying to argue, only trying to clear the confusion

While it may not be competitive you don't only have 1 life. You can be revived, so if a Titan does use a fist of panic and is able to kill all 3 of you he deserves it because you were too close together for a game mode like this. Yes rockets will be the only thing getting used because using a tracking proximity rocket is easier to kill with then a mini sentry in tf2.
