If you think I need to play Trials to critique it, you're wrong. I have 2 eyes which watched the trials reveal. I'm reporting feedback on the mechanics shown, I don't criticize what I don't already know. This seems to be the #1 argument, that I need to play it to give feedback, which is simply illogical in this case.
Trials is a joke on competitive gameplay.
For those who don't know, Trials of Osiris is essentially a 'One-Life' PvP experience with reviving. There's five rounds to win and if a team is wiped they lose the round. That's basically how it works, although it's majorly flawed. The concept is astounding and impressive, the details are where you figure out it's not all that great.
Major flaws
-You can use super abilities. This means Blade dancer, Golden Gun, Radiance, etc. And you keep it after death. One golden gun, triple kill, boom. Round over. What's the fun in that? Eventually everyone will have their supers too by round three. How do you think 6 players all just trying to end the match by using Golden Gun is competitive? Or have three Sunsingers who just radiance after they're dead for additional lives in the Trials. How is this competitive?
-Heavy ammo spawns after three wins. On Burning Shrine? 12 Rockets per team (Plus additional clown cartridge rockets) and you only have three enemies? Okay so I guess I'm just going to spam rockets down the lanes on Burning Shrine hoping I get one. So will my buddies I guess. That's competitive apparently.
-You spawn on the same DAMN SIDE EVERY TIME. If blind watch has taught us anything it's to not capture A if you want to win. There are maps that exist that are one sided and rely heavily on defending map control. Burning Shrine is literally the quintessence of a one sided map. Whatever team that spawns on beach the entire game has a huge advantage. All they have to do is hold beach. Three entrances, sun behind them blocking people from sniping them, and tons of cover and head glitches that exist on beach. This isn't fair one bit.
-There's level advantages in the Trials of Osiris? Power Matters? This is supposed to be competitive, how is that supposed to exist when there's level advantages? Level advantages make the game unfair. Most good PvP players know they should have a separate armor set for PvP and PvE. Why? No one cares about the perk, "Replenish more super energy from killing minions of the Darkness" in the Crucible. It's unnecessary. Now everyone is going to be running around in PvE raid gear for additional damage by being maximum level.
-I'm also kind of disappointed in the system of how rewards work. There's no award for not dropping a single match? There should be an emblem/shader or something at least that is given if you win all 10 games with no losses. Just my opinion. Give players a real reason to want to win, something highly exclusive. It's hard to win 10 games in a row with your team against teams trying equally as hard. Reward your players Bungie
This is something you shouldn't consider when evaluating my post, although it's something I feel would be better.
You search matchmaking based on best connection too, confirmed in the twitch broadcast. That's great and everything, but why not make it search based on difficulty also? It's a competitive rewards system. Competitive isn't about searching random players every time. Rank it. Players who are continually winning 6 games in a row should only play other players who have won 6 games in a row. Make players work for their rewards.
Good quotes:
"Unfortunately, I must agree with you. Level advantage, above all, removes any notion of "pure competition," as do unavoidable nuke one-shots (i.e Nova Bomb, Fist of Panic, rockets for a whole damn team). These seem especially against the spirit of pure, balanced competition when you consider that you have only one life. So if you get blasto'd by those nigh-unavoidable rockets, well, tough shit. Better luck next time. While I am most likely going to dip my toes in to test the waters, Trials of Osiris does not seem purely competitive to me at all." -Gris

"I agree. 3 Golden guns will be impossible to counter- besides that one lucky blink/backstab in the face move, but against a good team? Yeah... okay. You best believe I will just spam 12 shots with my buds down their spawn point just to win the final round like an ass. It's literally just allowing people to abuse the most abusive things in the game? First off heavies shouldn't of made it into the gameplay at all. Why do I need 120 HMG bullets? Guess I'll use rockets lol. I'm glad you are professional enough to call them out on its flaws. 'Best part' are level advantages; as you said I have separate gear for each kind of game type, I'm not looking forward to doing the prison of elders 100+ times just to get discipline and strength maxed.
P.s *Ranking would of been the best thing to implement into this kind of playlist too, would of been so much more intense.*" -I TheHologram
1 返信If bungie hopes to make destiny more of a competitive friendly game. They need to revamp trials. I like the passage card (lose 3 and your done) but essentially every week this is just gonna be another grind. There's little incentive to win and the fact its on burning shrine with no spawn flips is outrageous. Clearly the glare was put in as a distraction. But how is the he gonna be fair when whoever spawns on the beach from the start is gonna have the advantage. Trials should be 4v4 No supers and one heavy drop contain one rocket or a half clip of machine gun ammo. It would have been nice to see some new objective type games introduced to the game such as CTF. I really hope they rework trials to a more stock experience (no level advantages no supers and 4v4) trials is a great idea and with a little tweaking could really set the tone for competitive destiny experiece that could even evolve into a pro circuit one day who knows PS give us custom games

I agree with you, it looks like an über broken version of hardcore elimination. The only reason I'll suffer through it is for my love of ancient Egypt and its style. I want that gear, but it's going to piss me off to get it.
-
I'm inclined to agree but will give it a fair shake when it hits. I think it will be a blast fest with average rounds lasting only a few seconds. That's not a game, it's not co.petatuve and its not gonna be fun either but... We shall see if they can overcome. I must also say that I'm not pleased that PVP players (and teams) will get goodies that PVE players won't - if that is correct. I will not be bullied into PvP which, so far, I haven't much enjoyed.

I think it's alright. Most of your arguments are correct, yet not impossible to get over. It's not too difficult to flank a golden gun and snipe his brains out. As for spawns, they've only ever mattered on control, if you're on "the bad side" in a game where only kills matter you're doing it wrong

1 返信Saw the title and thought I was gonna disagree. Read it though and holy shit, the way they revealed it really sold it, thinking more broadly though, I gotta say I can't disagree with you. Well put together post.

7 通の返信I love how everyone is like wahh supers are op, wahh heavy is op. Hello?...it works both ways. If this is op and that is op and so is this...then shouldnt you have something that's "op"

1 返信Until they address all of this, I'll be in the corner with my Final Round Efrideets and Golden Gun. Come at me brah. It's 'competitive'!
-
1 返信I think the only thing that really needs to be addressed is the map rotation, or lack there of. You can win 9 matches and still get rewards, but let's say you win 7 matches and lose 2. That's 9 total matches with at least 5 rounds per match....burning shrine burning shrine burning shrine burning shrine burning shrine burning shrine burning shrine, etc.......anyone else bothered by this?

When I opened this thread I was preparing to argue against you. But after reading your points, I can't help but agree fully. The reveal looked legit because they had everyone using diverse classes and abilities and weapons. But in real life, no one is going to do that. 3 sun singers would be near impossible to beat with everyone using self res. And supers? Yeah supers probably shouldn't be able to be used at all during this. Imagine 3 blade dancers, golden guns, or sunsingers. That would be absurd. People would totally abuse the system. I hate to admit it, but supers really do take a lot of the competition out of it. It's a free kill or 2 or 3. And with only 3 players on each team, that's an easy edge. A true skill competition would be to remove supers. Also great point about the rockets. 12 rockets is absurd. It should be one rocket per player. You'd really need to show skill to make it count.

Best example of competitive play: Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Each team gas a chance to be on the better side and each team gets fair and balanced weapons. Goddammit Bungie, you can be special, but at least borrow some ideas so you're not special trash!
