A Response to: "10 Simple Things Destiny Could do Better" Article by Planet Destiny

Dear Comrades in Destiny, Planet Destiny's Article makes mention of 10 Things which they believe are relatively achievable for Bungie as improvements or fixes. Lets look at the options suggested. Please feel free to add your own desired improvements and suggestions. 1) New Bounties, A Variety of Bounties, Multi-stage Quest type bounties. + I like this and agree that the bounty system is getting stale. Having Eris there now helps but not as much as it would if there were FIVE or SIX NPC's offering a wide variety of bounties with concrete rewards such as a specific weapon, shader, or customization option. 2a) More Vendor Interaction Planet Destiny writer Joel ______ ? rightly points out that after level 20 much of the gear offered is not of much use for Guardians looking to play at high level challenges. Joel suggests that the vendors ought to have a higher tier level of stock for advanced characters too. + I like this idea. 2b) Destiny character customization Joel writes....."having Vendors that sell useful consumables, additional cosmetic options, or any number of modifications to armor/weapons or personal flair could help..." + This is a fine idea, and I like the idea of getting to make my character more unique. Unlike previous Halo games ( like Halo Reach ) where Spartan outfits had a wide range of options, colorizations, and the CHOICE of personal emblems...characters in Destiny are outfitted using whatever we can scrounge up. Oh yes we can add a shader ( if it ever, ever, ever drops for us in PvP, or PvE game play or after an unknown amount of faction rep grinding ) ....but the color scheme is still largely determined by someone else. 3) Better use of the Game’s World "Bungie should look into giving more incentives to get out into these ( planetary ) environments. Simple consumable, material, or reputation rewards or achievements for exploration would be a good place to start." Joel's next questions relate to the larger struggle in Destiny and the story arc which is largely hidden at this time. "What are the Cabal up to on Mars when not under siege by the Guardian and his Ghost? What are the Fallen looking for in the Cosmodrome? "We hear stories from the Tower and Ghost about the many Guardians before us that have braved these hostile worlds for the good of the Traveler. Why don’t we ever see any of these? Even a simple Easter Egg for dedicated players to track down would go a long way. + Well said Joel.Getting into details like enemy faction motivations, objectives, and belief system might involve something like intelligence gathering, decoding enemy communications, interrogations, or stealing some enemy leader's planner/ diary. Gosh, this could require storytelling on somebodies' part ! 4) Player Personality / Advanced Character Customization Options ! "Something Destiny seriously lacks is any player character development or attitude. We can attempt to stand out with our unique armor variations and weapons, but the guardians beneath are basically faceless and bland pawns to exploit in order to play the game. Some simple customization could make our characters truly memorable and reflect how we play the game. Personal touches such as the gait of his walk, or wave or dance variations could add a bit of unique style that doesn’t outright require re-writing or re-recording the entire script of the game. And........how difficult would it be to have canned responses tailored to a select personality? If you prefer the cocky, finger-on-the-trigger Guardian, why not have a VO shout a witty quip as they shoot all those Fallen in the battlefield? If you’re more the sober-minded vanguard of justice, why not a line or two about how Earth is a safer place without those gross Hive Thralls skulking about?" + I do like Joel's suggestions for more advanced character customizations including more gestures, dance moves, and vocalization options. Vocalizations should also have the options to be turned on or off. So far I'm the one who has to call out "WELCOME to EARTH !" ... as my character blasts the invaders apart. 5) Adjusted Loot Drops "Perhaps one of the most complained about mechanics in Destiny is the completely arbitrary RNG loot allocation system. While its completely impartial nature can lead to exciting windfalls of precious loot, it just as often leaves you out in the cold. Never should you get the same raid gauntlets five times a row. Never, ever, ever should you play an entire raid and not receive any rewards past increasingly useless Shards/Energy. For Raids, never give the players nothing or the same item twice. Every Raid could provide at least 2 brand new items, so long as they are available and the player hasn’t been awarded them yet. That top-dog Raid weapon shouldn’t be guaranteed, but it should get increasingly likely to drop the more you play. The Vex Mythoclast might only be a 20% chance drop, for example, but each Hard Mode completion could add an extra 10% to that rate. The idea of working towards a goal that becomes increasingly achievable the longer you play is a very solid premise to build on. If players are as unlucky as they could possibly be, they are still eventually guaranteed the drop after completing the encounter enough times. As for strikes, the loot, experience, and/or reputation could correlate to the kills and damage done to the bosses. It would motivate those end-game players to kill enemies, rather than just run past them, and actually give players that put in the effort a reward to show for it. Assists should count too, just so more casual players could get a fair cut on top" + These are all fine ideas worthy of inclusion into Destiny. The frustration and sense of futility that players often express could be replaced with a sense of hope that their persistence in Raids would eventually be rewarded. 6) Meaningful Rewards "Bungie should tailor these level 30 difficulty rewards to things that are constantly appreciable or more relevant for those players who have reached that level. A sizable reputation boost, Radiant Materials, and buckets of Glimmer would go a long way to preventing a Guardian from glancing at The Wakening and simply saying “meh.” Additionally, loot tables should reflect what players are likely to want from certain activities. If someone is doing a Nightfall, it’s unlikely they’re desperate for Materials anymore, and can feel like a slap in the face at times when receiving them." + I have several friends who express severe disappointment and displeasure at being awarded materials for completion of the Daily, the Weekly Nightfall and the Weekly Heroic missions. Bungie's use of this suggestion would please my friends. 7) Interesting Crucible The ideas that keep coming up are: having more Crucible variants, more maps, an improved reward system, and the option to have closed matches between friends. For my part i find the constant weapons damage modifications to be a distraction rather than a boon to the game. 8) Xûr: Add a Quest/ Challenge Path to Exotics Joel's novel idea is for Xur to offer a quest/challenge path to obtaining Exotic weapons and/or armors. + I find this to be a fine idea worthy of inclusion in the game. 9) Weapon Customization Points 2b, 4, and 9 are all related to customization ! I see a theme here ! Having the option for weapons colorization is less important to me than the OPERATIONAL perks like magazine size, stability, or firefly. Getting the option to customize my weapons is one of the chief reasons I've played the Iron Banner. 9b) While we're going on about Customization....where's my option to have a custom paint job and emblems on my ships ? I want the option to have a Hello Kitty, skull & crossbones, or fiery griffon on the wings of my ship ! 10) Vault Space I agree that the Vaults need reworking and expansion. * XI) Joel also mentioned the absolute need for Bungie to greatly improve on the delivery of Destiny's story.
