Memory constraints man. It's not that hard a concept to figure out. Old-Gen consoles simply can't properly manage the increased amount of items on screen past what they are giving. That's it. Doesn't matter if we waited 5 years, the old consoles will not change their hardware. People need to upgrade when possible and destiny needs to move forward in light of that.

Couldn't they have just made "pages" for the vault and use the bumpers to switch between the 3 item types to minimize what was " on screen" at a given time. Might have caused a small lag for last gen but then everyone could have enjoyed a large vault increase.

Visually you would be correct. And initially this is what I thought as well. But that cannot be implemented unfortunately because even though the items wouldn't technically be on screen visually , the ability to switch to them quickly while retaining the ability to move items to and from your inventory make them, technically speaking, on the screen regardless if you cannot actually see them. So it's not so much the amount of things on the screen, but the processed behind moving and transferring them which must be present in the vault which take up memory.

Right. The 360 can handle the 58 moving thrawl on screen in the abyss while myself and 5 other players are reloading, switching weapons and firing. Registering and recording where each of our shots go, while slowing and speeding us up due to proximity to a lamp that has a timer for effectiveness BUT, it can't handle the stack of 15 extra stats of weapons on screen. SUUUURRREEE....

That is the case unfortunately. Because both the old Gen consoles and the new generation are written with the same coding so the updates and patches could be pushed through easier. That's why everything occurs the same way on both systems, and the changes have to be applied to both and not just one. Otherwise they could optimize the vault space for the new generation consoles separate. Which obviously from this update, they cannot. They only gave new Gen the same spaces because the update was coded the same. And because of this, they were under the constraints of the old Gen.

Also a coder here. I agree with you. It smells like a PR move to me. They threw some technobabble out there that the vast majority of the community isn't going to have the knowledge to question. Internally they came to the decision they did because of entirely different reasons. My money is on....MONEY. This way was cheaper and easier for them to implement than an alternative. It just comes down to memory on the old consoles? By the way I got a bridge to sell you if you're interested.

Cheaper and easier maybe. You have to agree though that there's a lot of data in each weapon that most people don't give a second thought to. Also, they stated that this is a short term fix. As in, more coming later.
