Ok, I don't want this to turn into a "What's Legit" and what's cheese discussion. I've heard the "using cover properly is a viable and good strategy".
My point is that it seems like the only way to beat this content is to find the spots to hide and slowly take pot shot after pot shot. There is no fun running and gunning that makes this game great. You can't play the nightfalls that way, it's one strategy... hide or exploit a position and use ammo synth. To me this is a huge design flaw, and not fun at all... especially since it's a good sized portion of endgame content each weak.
So my challenge is show me a video of someone beating a nightfall "legit" being an awesome running and gunning guardian, not a cowering run for cover and find the one spot that the AI can't shoot you because it's not smart enough.
LAST EDIT: Hey thanks everyone for the feedback, good conversation, seems like many of you are happy with the style gameplay which is great "to each his own". Here's an update to the challenge since my wording was a bit vague and no video has been posted yet. SHOW ME A NIGHTFALL WHERE YOU FOUGHT THROUGH THE WHOLE THING AND DID NOT UTILIZE A SECTION OF THE MAP (TO A GREAT EXTENT) WHERE ENEMIES CAN NOT/ WILL NOT ATTACK.
I'm not saying this is the right or smart or best way to play it.... just let me know that some of you badasses can do it.
EDIT 1: Thanks for all the comments, Want to reiterate I'm not saying that I can do it "legit" my point is that I don't think anyone can and to me that seems kind of ridiculous. When I do Nightfalls I use many of the exploit spots because it's the only way. When I first started months ago, my hope was that as I got better and my gear got better I wouldn't have to though. That eventually through skill and loadout it would turn into an event that could be completed if you played it properly legit, if done really well. I believe now that is not the case, there is only the exploit.
EDIT 2: Ok my use of run and gun is being focused on. I don't think you should be able to play stupid and win, running around in the open and taking shots. I think that you still need to take cover, but enemies should be able to overwhelm you in those spots and force you to move on. There should be NO completely safe areas on a map.

OC Jeffreyにより編集済み: 1/16/2015 6:05:54 AMThe only problem with this weeks nightfall is since it was arc burn the fallen weapons do extra damage too, so basically one shot from a sniper vandal or captain and you were toast, at least that's what I was noticing as a 31, but honestly once you got past the mesh layer room this weeks nightfall was cake, Blackhammer FTW

4 通の返信Its called military strategy. You dont see people in the military run up to the enemies yelling "yeehaw!" and shooting them in the face. They would die. I find the nightfall to be more realistic. You actually have to think about what you are doing. Form a strategy, and execute as a team. If you want to run around like a chicken with its head cut off, go do roc strikes.

Theres actually a cheese spot that they havent patched, its on the top left building the first window you can actually hop into it into a 'safe room'. The only side to this is that you gotta hop out to apply damage and please, BUNGIE FIX THIS ITS BEEN IN THE GAME SINCE DAY 1

Yeah, I find nightfall pretty uninspiring. It is a weekly task. Not gameplay. There is no risk/reward calculation. With burns, angry and lightswitch and increased shieldin + resists all in play, and the tedious boot to orbit - risk is discouraged. When you can drop in at the end, get 0 kills and be awarded with an exotic, or run it agressively and quick and come away with 9 coins, then you would be a fool not to cheese the -blam!- out of it. With angry, lightswitch, a burn active and the epic modifier on even a good team can go from dominating to wipe in seconds. I would argue that they go with fewer risks - reduce the absurd one hit kill nature of it but retain the kick and restart on wipe. Careless gameplay on a ROC will still cause a wipe just without the excessive penalty. For example if you have a burn active, lightswitch should not be active. Make it so that you are not forced to adopt a ludicrously defensive position. Add in a mechanic that then somehow rewards agressive tactical gameplay while not necesarily punishing patience. I actually think burns should just be removed. They serve no purpose to my mind. Take this week for example. The devil walker - often one of the more trying encounters when you first start the game, becomes a ludicroulsy brief encounter and once that walker is down you can die all you want. No more darkness zone. Nightfall needs a rethink, that seems clear to me.

redhulk1974により編集済み: 1/15/2015 2:57:38 PMHonestly it is the only way my group plays we cover each other and keep it moving. There are some bosses that require a special strat on nightfall but we use what we must...if there's a lot of splash we compensate for it. But if I happen to do one by myself...self preservation is the tactic I will use.

2 通の返信How do you run and gun when Lightswitch is active? Or Angry? Nightfall is a whole nother beast then the rest of Destiny. You could even say that it's harder then V.O.G. (Haven't run Crota yet.....). You HAVE to take cover and find a hiding spot in Nightfall because of the difficulty and buffs added to it. Why don't you run it and show us a video?. Just of the first section. Where you have to hold off the three waves. Tell me you don't wipe a few times just running and gunning. Or, start looking for a place to take cover so you can get those pot shots off. Some people just make me shake my head with the things they have problems with in this game..........

2 通の返信Steveo340により編集済み: 1/15/2015 3:06:09 PMPeople, read the OP's post carefully before you react. OP is not criticizing anyone or their play style in Nightfall. He is criticizing Bungie. He is simply pointing out that Nightfall, especially run solo, really appears to be DESIGNED to be played by using cover locations INTENTIONALLY placed and designed so that ads and bosses can be fired on with little to no danger of the ads or bosses being able to hit the player or even, in some places, to approach the player. He is simply saying that most of us are forced to solo nightfall this way simply because Bungie made the ads so aggressive and able, in many cases, to kill you almost, if not, instantly, with the added "bonus" that you start the whole mission all over again. TL;DR; OP says Bungie took the fun out of nightfall, and virtually forces us to "cheese" it. (It's not really cheese, because Bungie designed each strike that way.)

Not utilizing cover during nightfall is a suicide mission. Most enemies have way too high a fire rate, too good of aim, too much damage thanks to burn/lightswitch, or have attacks with an obscenely high blast radius. No one can tank that much damage or outrun/dodge it while simultaneously dealing enough damage to adds and bosses to get the job done. Using cover is pretty much mandatory for nightfall, and thanks to incredibly overpowered mechanics like lightswitch using cover that enemies can't sneak up on you at is pretty much necessary as well. Now I am not saying you have to hide in some safe spot, if you have a good team of three and can draw agro from different cover locations you can still move around and be active; but even an incredible team of people isn't going to be able to run around in the open all of the time it simply isn't realistic.

I for one don't see anything wrong with utilising cover. For example in devils lair when you are waiting for the barriers to come down. The ledge at the back of the room. If people are going to claim that fight using there for cover is cheesing then I see it the same as moving in and out of any usual cover. I understand what OP is saying but I like the fact you have to fight strategically. It's what makes it what it is in my opinion. If you can run and gun it then it's nothing different to a bog standard strike. Not hating on OP, I see his points and I agree with some.
