I think it was just an accumulation of bad decisions brought on by the influx of a new development team. Happens ever time new owners take over a business, they have all kinds of new ideas to turn the business around, but if you don't understand your audience or client base it could doomed to failure. Many ideas on their own seemed great, but they were not a good fit for a long standing game such as Destiny. And to be fair, they weren't left with a game that was growing, they inherited a game on it's way down. Drastic times call for drastic measures, but they simply misread the room. If given enough time and resources there is always a chance they could revive the game and it's player base but it's touch and go at this point.
