The main argument against sbmm is that every match would be a sweatfest. But guess what, that is what endgame content is. For the top 1% pvp players it might be less fun to constantly go up against players with equal skill or deal with long que times. But if that makes the game 'unplayable', maybe endgame conteng just isn't for you? Because the other 99% will enjoy sbmm much more because they will be able to get better and stand a chance.
As an anecdote, for 5 matches in a row I had teams who were roughly in my skill level. The matches were relatively close and while some players were weaker, others were stronger to make up for it. Mistakes were made on both sides. It was fair and it was fun. But then, on the 6th match, I was paired with 2 who were around my skill level, and the opponents were far, far more skilled. The match was lopsided and just not fun. We didn't stand a chance. If I wasn't playing for rep, I would've just gone back to orbit. The loss was fine, as I wasn't expecting a flawless anyway. Didn't pick up a mercy card, I just went in for the double rep. But there was no way for us to learn or improve. We didn't have the chance to adapt or fight back as the skillgap was simply far too big. Those kinds of matches make Trials not fun and keeps people away from actually trying the gamemode.

4 通の返信Comp should be rank based. Trials should be connection based. Quickplay should be connection based. Quickplay should skill based if you’re brand spanking new to the game. Skill based matchmaking in comp would be somewhat weird since you could have the skill of an ascendant player but get stuck in gold because you’re playing against players that are alike. A true rank/ladder based system makes the most sense.

5 通の返信It would not work. SBMM 50/50 rate with requirement to get 7 wins, do the math bro. Only few percent of players would go flawless (now the percentage is around 25-30% depending on map/weapon/weekend). It would kill the mode in first weekend. Only good thing would be that it would also kill Account Recoveries.

Trials should match based on the win you’re on with you current card. It’s a tournament style mode and does not work with sbmm.

3 通の返信Comp has SBMM and it shouldn't...it should be ranked based...and as far as trials is concerned I wish they would just go ahead and put SBMM in there just so everyone can finally see that ain't gonna do jack s**t but give the gamemode a quick and painful trip to the grave...trails needs to be win/match based like how every other tournament style competition works in the entire world to keep things fair

1 返信Yeah there is. The higher in skill you are, the more afraid of similarly skilled players you are. Bungie basically hands top tier players free early matches.

There is, actually. Comp should be rank-based, not SBMM, for fairly obvious reasons. My path up the ranks should be no different than anyone elses. I shouldn't have to play better or worse players on average to get to adept than you did. As for Trials, same thing. There's no reason it should be harder (or easier) for me to go flawless than you or anyone else. It should be card-based. Flawless games against other potential flawless gamers. First games against other early cards.

2 通の返信No. Comp and Trials should be rewarding to everyone (good rep gains and rewards regardless of how often you win or lose) but things like flawless and Ascendent are meant for the best of the best. SBMM diminishes that. Rank based matchmaking is what any good ranked mode should be based off of (otherwise the “ranks” mean nothing). And Trials should have slight Card Based matchmaking again (mostly just to protect people with 0-2 wins from getting people farming adepts at 7 wins).

1 返信Sbmm is designed to keep win loss ratio close to 50/50, it would be more luck than skill to win 7 in a row

3 通の返信Let's not confuse Skill-based MM with Rank-based MM. Yes, people in Comp should be matched against an appropriate skill level, but a top 1% player shouldn't have to match exclusively against other top 1% players just to prove they're good enough to be in Gold III, while a bottom 1% player could climb to Ascendant through blind luck against other equally-bad players. The whole point of a rank system is that the better players sit at the higher ranks; SBMM in a ranked playlist encourages a 50% win-rate and means players of all skills populate all ranks, thus the ranks are almost meaningless.

2 通の返信Comp has SBMM and I honestly haven’t heard any positive feedback about it lol; this post adds onto it as well

Personally as someone who’s been bad at the game and has improved a whole lot I can tell you that trials shouldn’t be skill based because the better you get the more the game sucks. We’ve had skill based trials and people would just make Smurf accounts to carry people for money,if it’s random you get a more consistent and fun experience, plus if you’re decent or good you can get flawless. If we still had skill based trials would feel impossible for players of any skill level, and the higher the skill bracket the more you bump into cheaters. Our current trials experience is the best we’ve had in terms of matchmaking, unless you’re lazy or if you suffer from some kind of medical condition that impedes with your ability to play. Trust me,I’ve helped friends go flawless and they’d tell you the same thing.

1 返信Imo, trials should have card based matchmaking and comp should have rank based matchmaking. I don’t see the point of the systems without this kind of matchmaking, as the current matchmaking contradicts the system is supports.

DHawk12により編集済み: 10/1/2023 1:52:51 AMSbmm + tiered progression based on skill bracket makes perfect sense and is 100% fair across the board. Sbmm alone is wildly unfair because 100% effort of a 0.5 player is not the same as 100% effort of a 3.0 player. If you are pro sbmm but you are against tiered skill based progression then that means a fair system is not what you want, rather you simply want superior players to be punished. By tiered I mean the best players get 10x quadruple perk choice adepts from the lighthouse while the worst players get a medium chance for 1 basic single perk choice adept. Fair is fair.

10 通の返信Trials imo should be card based mm and comp should be rank based. They should have another playlist similar to comp that has sbmm to allow players to improve then the rest of the modes have cbmm to allow players to have fun in party modes and use off meta stuff.

2 通の返信Zoidbergにより編集済み: 10/1/2023 6:03:19 AMThey just need to quit putting top pve options in pvp. Or release a pve equivalent at the same time. I was fine never touching trials. Now I just cost dozens if not hundreds of players their flawless cards lol
