This show is totally made up by people who have no clue what they are doing. It's not a prequel. The show has 0 to do with Tolkien's work. The first episode will most likely break records but I can't see those high numbers lasting.
No doubt it will visually stunning with a $1b budget. But money spent does not equal a good show.

6 通の返信You do know Peter Jackson refused to capture The Hobbit in all it's glory like he did with the LOTR trilogy, because he knew cinema was on the decline thanks to streaming sites like Amazon... He just aimed it in the direction for a much younger audience. I'm dubious about Amazon being involved, but after only watching the two trailers and avoiding all the philosophers on the internet, I'm rather looking forward to it.

It’s events were never captured by Tolkien in anything other than a broad outline. So any adaptation of this part of his work will have to fill in huge gaps in dialog, character arc, as well as allow for changes in audiences in the 75 years since Tolkien put this stuff to paper. What is important is that—-as I can tell as a Tolkien fan of over 40 years—-the trailers seem true to the spirit of his work. Being an “Elf-friend” represents adherence to a particular set of values. One of the most powerful images in the trailers, depicts the leaves falling from the White Tree (symbol of the blessings given to the Men of Numenor for fighting alongside the Valar and Elves against the First Dark Lord Morgoth). It was an bad omen of that blessing having been taken away as the last king of Numenor fell into darkness and the corruption of Sauron. For having turned their backs upon those values, giving rise to what would be known as the Black Numenorians and the Corsairs of Umbar by the time of the LOTRs. Much of this anger is being fueled by people making mountains out of things that are insignificant to the story that Tolkien was actually telling.
