We don’t need a speaker, the factions have stopped giving gear in return for guardian support, and the vanguard is in shambles.
Why are these guys in charge again?

I think a better idea would be to create a civilian based system, where they elect and choose there own leaders. Personally I think all the factions are batshit crazy, and that having immortal super soldiers run the major governing body is just a bad idea. In my opinion, a government with a civilian elected leader and council of sorts would work out much better, mainly because guardians are better at shooting bad guys than discussing politics, and partly because it would it would allow for a system in which the people make all there decisions.

Dissolve the Consensus to bring forth an era of the three factions vying control of the City each month/season by winning the favour of the Guardians (in game) and the citizens (lore wise) to forward their respective agendas? I could go for some revived faction relevance and competition between my fellow Guardians. Unique gear, individual lore entries per faction, special cosmetics when your faction wins. Admittedly, it’d be a resource consuming idea that Bungo won’t be able to spare but we can dream, can’t we?

The consensus is more than s benefit to guardians Guardians don’t have to be at the tower or city, they can go out into the wild and settle down in a house if they don’t like it The consensus is the government and gives the people of the last city a voice in what happens. Without the consensus the city would fall apart from within, and for non-guardians, leaving the walls basically is suicide The vanguard is simply to give the the guardians a voice, so that they aren’t sitting around being pushed around by the city, causing them to leave, leaving the city unguarded, causing the extinction of humanity.

We don't need a speaker? Yes we do. D1 lore- Until the Traveler regains its voice and awakens, I speak for it. We need a representative which solely handles things for the Traveler and responds on it's behalf. It is foolish and dangerous to proceed without a speaker with those commitments. We will elect a new one eventually. The factions have stopped giving gear? Says who? What lore supports this? They are rebuilding and redistributing. NM is rebuilding the city as seen by the development updates and less craters being present from the red war. FWC is establishing new pathways with it's technology and has added some of the hardest and most relevant lore according to it's observations (queue armor pieces). And DO is providing support and aid to Holliday and our ships you dumbass. Why on all the terra firma you walk on do you think they are just doing normal jobs? They ALL are our support operations. Without them and the vanguard, we would quite literally be in the blind everywhere we go and without our ship repairs, maintenance, etc.. Vanguard in shambles? Yeah, you need to read up on a lot of the lore and I mean a lot of it. Cayde-6 being lost is no small loss correct, but the vanguard is still just as strong as yesterday and their words and support for awoken and guardian needs is second to none.

The vanguard, Speaker and three factions are not the only members of the consensus, there are other representatives, they are just not mentions in detail because they don't really have much to do with guardian affairs.

10 通の返信Until the City decides on a new form of government, we’ll have to keep the Consensus. You can’t just dissolve the government and leave the City without government. And, sadly, New Monarchy is the runner up. They want the people of the City to democratically vote to establish a monarchy with an absolute ruler. As history has shown us, that won’t turn out well. And we’ve all seen that NM has its fair share of corruption.

2 通の返信TheHaloCat3958により編集済み: 7/3/2019 2:23:09 PMThe city government before the Red War, was an autocratic oligarchy of a unitary state. The people have no say in Consensus laws or elections, meaning that they can’t vote and protests would generally be ignored. Even if it was “democratic” (Please keep in mind that I’m using the terms Democracy and Democratic in terms of the people getting to vote. This has nothing to do with political parties for all the Americans out there.), I doubt that protests would be heard.
Not to get political but the United States in 2016/2017 when President Trump was elected is a good example of a “Democratic” nation ignoring huge chunks of its population. *edit* There were mass protests across the country.
Post Red War, things are really bad. The Speaker, is gone and now the Vanguard has to act as a “political mediator” for the Consensus. A military body not designed for politics cannot effectively govern a nation. Right now, I would say that the city is more like a “Semi-Anarchistic Oligarchy.” Mostly due to the fact that the government has been extremely unstable and indecisive. The problem is, we can’t just flat out disband the Consensus. As much as I personally do not like the way the city is ran, it’s not as simple as many people think it is. I believe France is a good (but not perfect since Destiny is fictional) example of how attempting to dismantle a government without a pre-existing system would happen. Part of the reason the United States was able to pull it together was because it already had smaller governing bodies and laws in place that came together and formed a plan for independence (only after it was clear independence was necessary). Even then, it had numerous early rebellions. France kinda had a pre-existing body when the monarchy was killed, but like the Consensus, the body was unstable and had opposing opinions.
I don’t care what people say about comparing fiction to History, there are many parallels between the two. The Cabal society for example is a clear half baked immigration of Ancient Rome as an example.
The point in trying to make here is, there is no existing body or bodies of smaller governing districts with enough power to effectively cooperate in the event of the Consensus being disbanded. For now, we are stuck with the “Semi-Anarchistic Oligarchy”. While I’m aware I might be going way too deep with the history stuff, I think it’s important we look at it. Hope this helped :)

3 通の返信Absolutely not, we just need to rework it. Abolishing the consensus would be akin to starting an anarchy government (which never works in any situation), what we need to do is get a new speaker as well as add other figureheads on top of the ones we have now. The factions don't speak for the people of the city, rather they speak for their own views on what's right. We need to elect someone who actually represents last city and its people, someone who represents the city militia and the, the fleets, farmers etc. Besides since when did the Guardian care about what the consensus says?
