The issue with Briarbinds is that in most higher difficulty activities it's not really usable where you would die 10 times before you are able to reach the void soul across the room and pick it up again, so an easy solution to this would be to make the void soul work like shoot to loot.
And before you jump in here and saying it will be broken, bungie can easily give it a cool down before it can be shot to return to player. e.g. it has to be deployed for 10 seconds before it can be shot.

That's a fantastic change honestly. I feel like this Exotic is underrated since it is pretty useful for void builds but this would honestly make it solid A tier, if not S tier since it's basically weaken on demand once active.

Awesome idea! And make Controverse Hold give Chaos Accelarant as part of the exotic so that it free's up the aspect and allows use in prismatic.

I DO think it needs much better tracking. Sometimes it attacks for no reason, sometimes it doesn’t attack at all when I shoot the enemy.

It’s a good idea, but implementing it would prove to be difficult. If a damage tick from any aoe weapons touch it it would return to you ‘to soon’. The same would be for ability with a big explosion radius or so. It could be a command element like press-and-hold your class ability button while your class ability is on charge time.

great idea > sign me up I don't think it will even be too cracked in PVP (I do use child)... this thing gets caught in walls all the time and this gives it a sortof boom-a-rang mechanic -
Maybe PVE only, that would be annoying as hell in pvp.

Would be cool, interesting applications for pvp. Side request for Child in pvp, make it's tracking to the shot player more strict, so it reaches the intended player more often, while significantly reducing its search radius for additional pvp targets, so random players aren't targeted from halfway across the map who had nothing to do with the original engagement.

Using your rift gives you the "void soul ready" buff that replaces your grenade charge with a "void soul charge" Throwing the grenade deploys a void soul above the impact site and let's out a short range suppressing burst. Then void soul behaves as you'd normally expect. I think making it a "grenade replacement" ability like gunpowder gamble and Ionic sentry would give players a lot more agency over when and where the soul gets deployed.
