The seasonal storyline is juxtaposing two relationships that bear striking similarities up to a point: • Each relationship has a figure (Osiris, Maya Sundaresh) that is highly analytical, has obsessive traits that drive them in their respective research into the Vex and is willing to skirt social taboos in the aid of said research (Osiris leaves the Tower for Mercury after his warnings of the Vex are deemed heretical, Maya’s experiments as detailed in the Veil Containment audio logs). • Each relationship also has a figure (Saint-14, Chioma Esi) that is more straight-forward with their feelings, has a strong sense of justice and pursues or is dragged along in their respective partner’s obsessions. • Each relationship is shattered by the death of the straight-forward partner, leaving the analytical one behind. This is where the two relationships diverge, with a major emphasis on the need to [b]control[/b]: • Osiris (with the help of a certain Guardian) resurrects Saint-14 using the Corridors of Time. Osiris is later stripped of his Light, has his body controlled by Savathun and then slips into a coma. After finally awakening Osiris learns to relinquish control and to “go with the flow” during his research into Strand. When Saint-14 has a crisis of confidence (“Am I the real Saint?”) Osiris helps him to overcome the self-doubt and realize that he is a valid person regardless of the exact nature of his origin. Saint will decide who he is and what that means. (spoilers for recent seasonal storyline revelations) [spoiler]• Maya finds herself alone, having been subsumed in a lake of Radiolaria. Through force of will she learns she can exert control over the Vex and vows to use this power to bring about a second Golden Age even if it means running roughshod over the remains of Humanity to do so. In her tireless pursuit to resurrect Chioma in the body of an EXO, Maya subjects each Chioma she creates to a battery of tests and questioning, rejecting each one in turn as being [i]not quite right[/i]. Maya Sundaresh has determined [u]she[/u] will be the one to decide precisely who Chioma Esi is and what Humanity will be. And in so doing has become a threat to the Universe.[/spoiler] (΄◉◞౪◟◉｀)
