My only option on PS5 was to turn off chat.
Imagine the meeting at Bungie.
Hey, lets make a new feature that spams chat when their friends come online, bet they'll love it.
Not their brightest moment.

There’s a new blank toggle at the bottom of Settings > Social that you can only see on PC. If you click on it once, it disables the online friends notifications on console.
