I played D1 and imported my characters to D2 at launch and went through the whole losing the light to the Cabal dude and finding it again with new supers.
Then I stopped playing after Forsaken and returned at the end of the season of the Deep.
I recently deleted 2 of my chars (I had 3 Warlocks, in D1 it was advantageous because class exotics where really hard to get, not like now that you get showered with exotics every week) and made a Titan and a Hunter.
I started with the Titan and got a slideshow quickly resuming everything and start in the Cosmodrome just like D1.
Did they erase the whole losing the light and the Cabal invasion of the Tower, and merged D1 with D2?

No, if you understand what the traveler is, and honestly looked at and understood what CoO said...what this imbaru engine is...and really really understand (without time constraints) what the curse of Osiris actually is, then you would understand why and how the cabal did what they did.
-
They butchered what story there was and replaced it with this soap opera bs.
-
Hope you like constant retcons.
-
Nah. There have been retcons/clumsy reframing but the story never got erased. If you made a totally fresh new character with no D1 save file then you will be treated as a ‘New Light’. Canonically, you have been risen after the Red War but your origin story is still the same, just at a different point in time. It doesn’t really make sense but instead of making a proper narrative for new players, they just picked up the start of D1 and put it back down after Forsaken. Hope that clarifies some things.
-
Kind of. They vaulted most of the story and replaced it with a "Destiny Lite" version that makes very little sense for the new breed of Zoomers.
-
They didn't exactly erase it, but it's kind of just a blip on the radar of the greater story (which has always been only loosely tied together up until more recently) at this point. Think they've done that on purpose since the red war campaign is no longer playable and they dont want newer players to feel totally confused and let out.
-
they got removed, yeah.
-
Not really. The game world evolved to a point where the red war & Forsaken's story are in the past, so new characters wake up after those events happened.
-
Effectively, yes.
