...in my opinion.
Inverted Spire is my favorite strike. And I think it is the greatest strike ever designed by Bungie. It’s the first strike most players have played, since it was in the beta for D2. It’s no wonder that Bungie would put their best strike in the Beta, to leave a good first impression on players.
This strike is so great because it takes you all across Nessus, I mean it's a pretty great journey when you think about it, you start in the Cistern area and make your way down to some Vex lifts that launch you to another part of Nessus. You keep going further down, inside these massive Vex structures with tall narrow hallways. And you’re out into the open again, where now you’re basically in a giant war-torn battlefield. Where Vex and Cabal are fighting, and then you enter a Cabal Drill, and get launched back into familiar Nessus territory where the Cabal have drilled into a Vex “tomb” of sorts.
You reach the Boss and what makes this boss so great is that it was never really health-gated with shields, or phases. You could kill this boss in the first phase if your fireteam’s damage is high enough. But this boss does teleport, however I wouldn’t exactly call this a typical “Health-Gate” because usually to drop shields on a strike boss you have to deposit some item or complete another objective to do dps.
However this boss only teleports when their health reaches a certain point.
Not only that but the ARENA changes each time the boss teleports, and gets (imo) progressively more difficult, the boss fight itself and the boss’s (Protheon’s) attacks actually change.
The final arena looks awesome btw.
Bungie mentioned here that they were going to adjust this Strike which has me a bit concerned because I think it's perfect. Although if they make it more difficult I won't mind.
I wish we had more Strikes like this. What is your favorite D2 Strike?
Best Wishes,

No, it isn't. You might have an argument if you said "in D2", but you said "Bungie ever designed".. D1 had much, much better strikes. Obviously you never played D1, but those strikes were awesome in scope and the encounters were all fun and engaging. Even in D2, that Taken strike on IO that was only around for a few months was much more intense and interesting. The Dreaming City strike is great. The new Neomuna strike is much better and greater in scope than Inverted Spire. Inverted Spire was the strike that everyone played in Beta and said "wtf is this simplistic sh#t?"
-
I really hope they bring back pyramidion and inverted spire. The 2 best D2 strikes.
-
The Pyrimidion was always a perfect strike for me. Good enemy density, interesting lore, voice lines that fluctuated between hilarious and heartbreaking and a decent boss fight.

The best strike is Devils Lair, and that is a proven fact It was in the D1 Beta , actually the first strike ever made Structured like a raid with 3 separate encounters And plenty of add density for all 3 players to slay out , and Eliksni and Hive are just more fun to fight The 2nd best is Sunless Cell, Alak-Hul running around a pitch black room with lightswitch on, scary af -
The pyramidion☝️
-
My favorite strike is the Corrupted.
-
Festering core.... Was only avalable for a year then it got vaulted...
-
Can't believe the fact that I look through this thread, and no one mentions Will of the Thousands. In my opinion, it is the best strike ever made. Just the soundtrack alone made it feel intense, especially if it was a nightfall. No one talks about how unique the boss was. When was the last time you fought a worm? I can't remember.
-
This is one of my favorites. Along with Pyramidion, and yes, the Infinite Forest strikes.
-
It's always been one of my favorite strikes. In the last 3 seasons, it has only come up in the playlist one single time for me.
-
Strikes? What are strikes again? Vanguard feels like a battleground playlist nowadays...
-
Bungie might not have designed that strike. It was released when High Moon Studios and Vicarious Visions were providing content for Bungie. Their work was better than much of the content being released now.
-
I think the big issue when they "adjust" old strikes is they aren't prioritizing making them feel new while still being the old strike and instead are focused on making sure you can't run through it in under 10 minutes. However I do hope Inverted gets one soon because in all honesty when you've done a strike since even before a games launch it does get pretty boring seeing it appear again.
-
Agreed. It really was the d2 showpiece, clearly a lot of work went into it (in stark contrast to battleground “strikes”). Beautiful scenery and a huge variety of environments.
-
I like that strike where that fallen splicer had an ogre’s eye as a weapon. That was very out of the ordinary at the time. Hell still is compare to these “strikes”. But I agree inverted spire is pretty well done
-
at this point, it's like the only actual strike still in the game.
-
Inverted Spire was pretty awsome. I also liked The Darkblade’s final boss fight.
-
Dust Palace was severely overshadowed by the meme that is Valus Ta'Auric.
-
Agreed. I remember farming Adept Uzume when Inverted was a GM.
-
Its not the best but its really up there. I still think Sepiks really set a good tone for what strikes should be. Granted, the Sunless Cell and -blam!- Brothers are also two examples of really amazing strikes. I think the only strikes I'd really put at that top level would be the Wretched Eye and Glassway (its honestly really grown on me from having done it as a GM enough times XD).
-
D1 - DarkBlade, ANY Venus strike ( cuz I liked Venus babaaaaaay )... D2 - Scarlet Keep, Corrupted, LightBlade
-
Whenever Bungie says they're going to "adjust" something my first instinct is to be suspicious. They're just gonna -blam!- extra time gating and layered shields out into this.
-
Modificato da Nezarekt (Timelost): 9/26/2023 8:33:19 PMA Garden World is one of my favs. The strike itself was boring, but the boss fight was really cool. Fighting a huge Vex cyclops on top of a skyscraper is so awesome to me. And it made you actually think about your placement in the arena which was really interesting.
-
The Nexus Strike and Shield Brothers were my favorite, personally from D1. The one that takes place in the Black Garden is a close second.. Destiny 2, I’d say Pyramidion and Garden World.
-
Summoning Pits for me from D1 No fluff, no strange mechanics. Get in, kill a Wizard, than go kill its prized creation, a massive Ogre with beefy health. No muss or fluff, and feels accurate
-
Not even an opinion. Just objective fact at this point.
