I just had a look at the TWAB again.
“All of Eva’s ingredients and cookies return from last year’s event. We also added new ingredients and recipes and made some improvements to the baking process. For each batch of cookies delivered, you’ll gain progress towards bounties and rewards for some Seasonal cheer.
This year, Eva has a new SMG for you to bake: the Cold Front. Additionally, if you missed out on the perfect roll for the Machine Gun Avalanche last year, it’s your time to shine. Both weapons will be available to earn throughout the entire event.
Weekly and repeatable Dawning bounties also grant [b] Bright dust, giving you more sources of this currency for [u]new items [/u]on the Eververse storefront.[/b]
One item will be Silver only: The Perfect Ten finisher.”

It looks like Bungie covered themselves on this one.
I do still think that it’s pretty poor not to drop the old items into the bright dust pool as well (even though I already have them from older events).

I don't really see how you can misread it that way. The bit you've underlined is simply bungie saying there will be new items for the event, which there was. It then, afterwards and in an entirely new paragraph, says that [u]only one item will be silver-only[/u]. There's no caveat in thier second statement, it's a standalone piece of text totally unrelated to the other comment. Anyone reading this would rightfully take it that, for the entirety of the event, only one item would be a silver-only purchase, ragardless of how many 'new items' there are. Even if they did cover themselves with some shady text, it would still just be Bungie playing dodgy tricks to get sales on Eververse - nothing we should be shocked with by now given the broken promises and so forth.

It specifically states bright dust for new items. It doesn’t also say bright dust for old items. I agree that saying only one item would be silver only does lead to a different conclusion and indicates that all old items would be sold for dust. However Bungie have done things like this so often. It’s as if they purposefully obfuscate things. We need to pay close attention to exactly what they say. Bungie really should have stated clearly that old items would be silver only. But they didn’t say we could buy old items with dust.

Technically they really didn't cover themselves, they only specified that one item would be silver only, so all they really did was contradict themselves. I feel like you could really call it either way though. Not that it really matters to me, just wish they could be completely transparent, then whether people like it or not at least they know exactly what to expect.

I’ve been hoping we’d get some real transparency for a long time. I had hope when Chris Barrett said they would do better, but he’s not part of the D2 ‘live’ team and is working on another Bungie project.

I'm ok with prior Dawning gear being only available for Silver. People who didn't attain it at the time should have been playing Destiny. Honestly if people kept up with playing they won't miss out on much over the game's lifetime.
