What is it about certain religions that makes them so opposed to same-sex marriage?
edit: Coincidentally, the further you move to the right, the closer you get to religious sects who teach that their holy book is literal.

It's just morally wrong.

7 Replieswhy not just allow multi-gender transcisfluid T-rexes to get Civil Unions? wedding implies religion, which is saying a religion should be forced to change to accept them.

2 RepliesEdited by Magical Robot: 1/15/2014 9:57:33 PMIF I COULD HAVE YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE!!! Many early religions including what would later become Christianity had many survival rules implemented in their doctrine. When the harshest rules were made for the Israelites, it was when their population was small, and they had no home, whilst they wandered the dessert for 40 years. Many of the rules prevented illness. Shell fish could not be properly cleaned at the time, and eating them had a high risk of infection. So naturally it was against the rules to do anything that could spread sickness. Other rules were put in place to prevent social issues, "though shalt not steal" for example. Now understand I am simply informing you all of this parameter, this in no way is an attempt to prove or disprove a point of view, and was simply placed here for educational purposes so that all arguments from all angles are more aware of their surroundings and can all hold more merit in discussion. Why am I doing this? Because I love an informed discussion of higher intellectuals debating that which must be.

3 RepliesBasically, a story book written by madmen thousands of years ago says that homosexuality is icky. It's quite a depressing thought that it's currently illegal in many states for that reason.

I'm bisexual. And a devoted Catholic. Let the comments roll in (or not. That's cool too.)

2 RepliesYou never get tired of spamming obvious flamebait, don't you?

4 RepliesThe culture of ignorance within mainstream Christianity is awful. People believe what they think they're supposed to believe (that is, what the pastor and the rest of their friends believe), without ever actually learning about their own faith at all, or anything else, for that matter. I say this because the Christian Bible itself isn't anti-homosexuality. Some would even argue Jesus supported it on a couple of occasions. I could make a long post on that but I can't be bothered at the moment.

What is it about same-sex couples that are in such a rush to have the hassle of marriage?
-
4 RepliesI think homosexuality should be allowed, but I do not want to witness it. I am tired of gay people asking for attention.

lol a lot of strongly favor votes from the Jews

1 ReplyI believe we should legalize it BUT we shouldn't force religious institutions to marry homosexuals/lesbians in their churches.

1 ReplyDidn't you just make this thread a week ago?

tl;dr jews were butthurt about being molested by romans since the romans loved gay sex they made it illegal or something, i dunno im drunk

19 RepliesWhy is homo-sexaulity considered wrong. I have thought about it for countless hours and still can't see why anyone would find it wrong with logical reasoning. I also don't understand such devotion to the bible. What makes this book the be all end all, and the rules of god?

Edited by Seggi: 3/8/2013 1:59:13 PMI would say that it's more to do with the fact that conservatives tend to be more religious than that religion tends to be more conservative, causally speaking. Full disclosure: I think religion is a fairly innocuous force.

I guess it has never been very religious.

What's a white Evangelical?
-
Jews are more accepting than "unaffiliated"? interesting..

2 RepliesWhy can't we just legalize gay marriage and allow private religious institutions do whatever the -blam!- they want within their own churches?
-
i still don't see why people believe in something simply because a book tells them to. if i had a time machine and went back and reversed everything the Bible says about Homosexuality, people today would be none the wiser.

14 RepliesEdited by GKR: 3/7/2013 9:59:55 PMI'm a Christian, and I think same-sex marriage should be legal in all states. Just because homosexual activity is considered wrong in our religion doesn't mean we should prohibit others from living how they want by restricting their freedoms in the name of a god they might not believe in.

2 RepliesWhat is 'white mainline'?

2 RepliesI'm actually a bit interested in how Jewish people support it the most. Seeing as how most of the stuff about homosexuality is in Leviticus correct, you would figure more Jewish people would be against it in comparison to Christian sects which generally don't take the old testament as seriously.
-
It's more misinterpretation of the bible than anything else. Homosexual couples, abortion, and birth control are looked down upon in the bible because the birth mortality rate was so high back then. That's why pedophilia and huge amounts of kids per family was accepted back then.

1 ReplyI am amazed that catholics favor the legalization of same-sex marriage so highly..
