I have a couple friends who I would think would love Destiny. Why don’t they just start playing then? Well with the release of Beyond Light the first half of the story is gone. It was hard enough for me starting and understanding everything back in year one because there was a whole other multi-campaign game I never played but for them if they joined now other then the boring starter campaign in the Cosmodrome, there’s nothing for them to do. The only available campaigns/storyline for them to play through is locked behind a paywall for each one and even if they spent all the money to be able to play them they still wouldn’t understand the great story of Destiny without watching multiple hours of 3rd party YouTube lore videos. I’ve only recently got a grasp of the whole story from watching 6 hours of lore vids. They shouldn’t have to do that to understand and get into it. Bungie you guys need to figure out a solution to this cause you’re losing potential players because of how complicated and expensive playing the game is

6 RepliesGiven 85% of the Story/Lore is in Lore Books and Grimmore Cards.....you'd still be Searching through either YouTube, Wikki or buy the Books. The Only "Lore/Story" your Missing is 4 Campaign Story's that can be sum up in 10 Seconds of Layer 1. Red War- Ghaul, Leader of the Red Legion wanted to take the Light. He took the Light, yet the Traveler took it back. Curse of Osiris- Osiris found a Future the Vex wanted. Ponoptes a Vex mind captured Sagiria, and Osiris went Nuclear on him. Warmind- We defended Rasputin from an Attack by Xol, Will of a Thousands(Worm god). Forsaken - We hunted Uldren Sov who killed Cayde-6 through the Tangled Shore, and made it to the Dreaming City where we Fought a Dragon, know as Riven of a Thousand Voices. The best part is I literally pulled this information from a Icon from the Top right hand of the Screen in the Director where it gives a Time table of Events. You then can go to the Lore books in Triumphs as I know a Few are unlocked to New players off the bat and Read Layer 2 of the Story. Destiny is a Lore heavy Story with Multiple layers. To know the Whole Story is Layer 3. Layer 1 is Given. Layer 2 is Given. Layer 3 must be Searched.

Destiny has been out for years, at this point anyone getting in late should have no expectations and just play the game. To be honest I’ve been playing this game since the very beginning and I still don’t know whats going on majority of the time lol.

The game will ALWAYS be expensive, but you don't have to get ALL of it at once. It's always best to start Destiny at the beginning of a major expansion. Tell them to wait for the Witch Queen deluxe edition to be on sale, and jump on that. Let them decide later if they want to revisit old content, or pick that up when it's on sale. You only need the more current story to understand what is going on. The Red War has been practically scrubbed from existence, as have Cayde. The Witch Queen is like a story "reset" that's a good jumping on point.

1 ReplyBungie is aware. Luke Smith or whatever his name is recently did an interview with a news company. He was saying that Destiny is so deep into its story at this point it is unfriendly to those trying to start it. That "you feel like you missed the train". He also said that at the end of Lightfall and Final Shape, they plan on changes so that people can pick up the game and not be turned off by an issue of the story beginning back in 2014. He did not mention though if this meant a story that you can jump in on at anytime, or simply starting a brand new story in general.

4 RepliesEdited by SpoonieEzMode: 7/28/2022 5:31:15 AMI have been playing games since Pacman - I was one of the people who introduced storytelling to MMOs in Everquest (I try not to flex, but I'm trying to prove a point here). I've played a lot of games, and I honestly have never struggled as a new player like I struggled with this game. For those of you who have done everything for years, and know every strike until you can do it in your sleep, I can tell you hand on heart I nearly quit playing, because just trying to figure out what to even do, how to progress, what steps went to where as far as questlines go, who the hell is Xur??? - the game told me none of that. What I had to do was extensive online research - the likes of which I haven't had to do since we kept a binder of maps in EQ (edit: actually, FFVII might have been even more difficult) - just to figure out how to level, and then find a clan of people who weren't totally bored with the content to even deign to group enough for me to learn - and honestly, they didn't. The environment and the community isn't newbie friendly. You're all 'blueberries' - said with a sneer - everyone zergs ahead and complains when you cost the team a win even though there's no feasible way you could know how The Corrupted works first try. It's getting better because there are a lot of new players - I'm only now learning how to run strikes, as there are many newbies who slowly bimble through, trying to figure out where to go. I couldn't have done it before. As a new player this game is a slog. My husband, a dedicated shooter player, gave up after a week as he found the game impossibly difficult. There's soooooo much to try to learn, and no way ingame to learn it. The tutorial is nowhere near sufficient.

Anyone over the age of 12 can understand the story. There's literally a time-line on the director that lays out the story so far as well. Also, Destiny has a great story & expansive lore, but none of it is necessary to enjoy the game. The entire first year of Destiny 1 had nonsensical storylines. Also, all of D1's lore could only be accessed outside the game, & people still won't shut up about how great that game is.

That's like most MMO and other live service game Not a bungie issue but a byproduct of games now lasting more than a year and a half Also I know some peoples that started fresh with witch queen and are enjoying the game and learning about the past from others and I also know someone that quit bit after forsaken and returned and he is also enjoying himself discovering all the new stuff and exotics The new /returning player experience could be better ....but honestly its rarely something a game looks into since most of the time they are trying it the game because of someone they know that plays it

3 RepliesThat's how they want it to be. Keep the hard-core that are used to having to pay and grind for everything ' Ad Nauseum '.
