Can we agree that Trials needs a more sophisticated solution than a Flawless pool and Freelance?
At best, these systems have demonstrated to be short term solutions that are either easily exploited or come with noticeable drawbacks, or both.
Why can't we try long term, robust solutions? Just as an example, what about turning the card into a pseudo-ranking system?
The concept of "flawless" would have to be retired and replaced with reaching a certain rank. When players are in any given rank, they acumilate rank points or whatever from wins until they're promoted, and only match players within their current rank.
Losses would have to subtract points at the risk of being demoted though. If someone is improperly ranked, their teammates suffer, and may even give someone else who is improperly ranked a win. This system crashes if players are improperly ranked.
Rank resets each weekend, but remembers where you ended the previous weekend so it accelerates you there on subsequent weekends to avoid gatekeeping. Winning in the designated Lighthouse rank or higher gives adepts and Trials engrams, while winning in mid-ranks gives Trials engrams and masterworking materials and winning in the lowest ranks gives Trials engrams.
Add in-game LFG and the option to keep your matchmade team after a match to help solos.
With enough thought built into this, the need for the flawless pool and freelance goes away. You won't suffer the RNG of a teammate considerably worse than you or enemies so far out of your league you can't improve.
And most importantly, this system would actively incentivize improvement.
This is just an example of a system that I think has more merit than the worn-out bandaids we have now. Let me kmow what you guys think and what other ideas you have. I'm sure there are a lot more good ones.
