I know Gambit has been a large discussion for some time, so here are a few ideas I had that could help improve the player experience:
1-Trash damage gating by Envoys.
There has to be a better way to get players their damage buff than forcing them to go on a mini Envoy hunt. Instead, why not give the Primeval a damage resistant boost for each set of Envoys that appear? If the Guardian chooses not to go on the hunt, they do less damage to a Primeval and miss out on the "Primeval Slayer" buff. To get the damage bonus you should have to get a shot on the Envoy instead of it being a fireteam boost. This may also make it less appealing to invade at certain times. The more envoys that spawn, the more resistant the Primeval becomes. This makes it so the potential of missing out on a boost would be less appealing and the player would likely go on the hunt, rather than it be necessary and annoying. These Envoys would stay on the field for a limited time as well, not indefinitely, so missing out on a damage buff is a very real possibility. Think of an HVT when thinking about enemies coming on and off the playing field.
*The immunity buff given by a small blocker should not be touched as it is a defense mechanism by the opposing team.*
2-Envoy and HVT Health Regeneration
A second thought I had about Envoys(and HVTs) had to do with Primeval Health Regeneration. The definition of envoy: a messenger or representative. Why can't this representative give health regeneration while in the arena? Obviously the faster you kill them the less health the Primeval gains.
This could also be a chance to meddle with ammo drops as well. Faster kills of the Envoy and HVT grant more ammo bricks, and slower kills less.
3-Bump Primeval Health and Mote Requirements
I feel with this these types of changes the total Primeval health stat is a little low. Slightly higher health would prevent a complete boss dps 1 phase with Primeval Slayer x6. The current Primeval fight sequence just doesn't feel great.
With the ability to "steal" and "drain" motes, a higher number required to summon your Primeval would make communication amongst your team more necessary.
4-Gambit Prime(ish) Mods and Power Ups
I took a brief break from Destiny and actually never got to play Gambit prime. From what I hear there were mods and ways to boost Guardian performance. Can this make a comeback?
With the addition of artiface armor and the way raid gear has an additional slot for mods, why can't this be a thing for Gambit gear? I am unaware of the previous Gambit mods but there are definitely ways to incorporate them currently.
Examples of such mods:
-while carrying motes movement speed increased
-number of carried motes increased
-damage buff/resistance while carrying stacks of motes
-increase damage to blockers/invaders while carrying motes.
-Death Heals Primeval grants higher health while carrying motes when invading
These are just a few changes that could take the playlist in a direction more players could enjoy.
Thoughts?

And here's your change. $$

I love gambit

I don’t play much gambit now. Just build up the seasonal challenges, go in, do them, complete my Deadeye Gilding and dip out. I just don’t like the way it is now. Honestly preferred how Gambit flowed when it was best of 3, didn’t care for Gambit Prime. Rest of the changes to Gambit… 🤷🏼♂️ games be all over the place when I do play with no explanation why.

1 ReplyI would like to just see a gambit mode where it is straight PvE. Whoever gets to the primeval and kills it 1st will win. Tweaking to the health of the primeval and more motes to summon one may need to be considered. Maybe other things could be considered for the game mode as well. I just want to see how it will be without the PvP aspect, and how it would be just being a PvE contest.

Better yet, revert back to the way Gambit was prior to this season and just leave it the hell alone. When -blam!- ain’t broke don’t try to fix it … you’re never going to please everyone

I think the inclusion of gamemode specific combat mods would be a good addition to the game, specifically for gambit. It could add a welcome layer of depth to gambit. Such mods could be: - you slowly drain enemy motes while you are invading, you drain more motes when near the enemy bank - greater pick up radius or magnetism for motes - deal more and take less damage from taken combatants (gambit only) - greater mote capacity, allowing you to send stronger blockers - While invading, gain a burst of movement speed and ability energy when you defeat a guardian - gain increased movement speed, jump height and recover health faster while near an enemy invader - gain increased movement speed when you are carrying no motes As for envoys, I think they’re fine as is. Personally I think they could be tankier, but at the same time I see that some players really seem to struggle to take them out. My biggest gripe with gambit is the amount of heavy ammo. With the way it is, you currently get enough heavy ammo to invade, kill invaders, kill envoys and kill the primeval. I think the heavy ammo ought to spawn every other wave, making it so you ought to think about what you want to use your heavy ammo for. A cool change I would like to see is to make it so when you invade you actually become a taken combatant similar to lucent hive guardians, with abilities dependent on your class and subclass. But perhaps the most needed change, is fixing motes so they don’t fall through the ground. They could make them like stasis shards, which float in the air, don’t gotta worry about them falling if they float.

1 ReplyLots of typing, appreciate the effort, but... blah blah blah regarding trash PVP gameplay, so don't care :)
