The problem was never the gun but players.
Why did people let others get so close to them and into the one hit kill range?
The games time to kill is far below the time needed to take someone running at you out.
No it was easier to blame the weapon and not their skill or tactics. They ran around the place not looking or thinking what they were doing and then found themselves at point blank range against someone with a shotgun.
We learned in D1 how to combat shotgun users (and they had greater range and more starting ammo) and it is time for D2 players to stop complaining and learn how to counter shotguns.
Ps. If I see another person run into a cave and get blasted then after respawn ran straight back into the cave REPEATEDLY then I'm going to scream.

The problem is the maps. Very little sightlines. Very tiny maps.

No. I use a scout most of the time and a sniper regularly. There are long sight lines on one map nearly from one spawn point to the other which is why some kick off about snipers. The problem is things like players purposefully running into caves even when they know a camper with a shotgun is there. Running tight around blind corners. Not backing up while shooting when charged.... even counter charging right back at them.

That's why Shotguns apes hate fusion rifles, they are deleted before they get in range It's so satisfying killing a shotgun user mid slide
