The problem is while you can farm it, the drop protection doesn't increase past the first run.
Say it's by default 5% and increases by 1% every first clear of the week per account.
That means if you just started farming vog, the drop chance will be 6%, for all your farms.
Please note these are all made up numbers because we don't actually have the drop rate of the raid exotic.
So Tl;Dr is you have a constant low drop rate that won't increase. For the well being of your sanity I'd recommend running it at least once per week for a while then trying to farm it.

There isn't drop protection on vex
-
Honestly that's a debate itself. I got vex to drop about 8 weeks in, others have gotten it sooner, some later. We know eyes has some sort of drop protection, the community just kinda assumed vex would have the same. Bubgie never confirmed one way or another, and if they did they didn't give specifics. They could've brought VoG back before they decided to let people farm raids, meaning that it shouldn't be possible to get above 800 or even 100 looted clears without a drop. Honestly to me, if there wasn't a drop protection, running 800 Atheons seems impossible while most who raid get it well below 100. So I'd say there has so be some sort of drop protection that increases every week or else raid exotics would be MUCH rarer. Wall of text and numbers:
For example, it's been about its been 419 days since vog came to D2, which means about 59 week rounded down. If you played on all 3 characters you would have completed 177 runs. If we take 800 runs with no vex into account, then vex would be an incredibly rare exotic. Currently according to destiny tracker, vex ranges from #81 to #22 in usage across the game various game modes. Light gg states about 40% of its users have the vex mythoclast. Now, 800+ could be an extreme outlier, but it would still make getting vex in 177 runs, let alone 20 or 30, incredibly less likely. Overall there has to be some drop protection or else raid exotics in general would be non existent.
There's nothing to debate. Bungie hasn't said there's bad luck protection on vex therefore there isn't bad luck protection. It's a flat 5% drop rate based on someone's 9000 sample size poll from when vog came out.

Was this by someone named nutty-max on reddit? Because you might need to reread it. They state its about 1% with a 0.25% increase, which is better than if you had a flat 5%.
