Just to be clear you wouldn't have to wait 35 seconds longer. This is the illusion of naming something CBMM. The only extra wait times are for those way outside the bulk of players around the middle of the bell-curve. And even they don't get faster connections per se, but it simply fills up that pool with players outside and below their league. Which is double what they want: exploitative queue jumping and players to farm.
Why it's was changed was largely down to coordinated social media campaigns and threats by Streamer-YouTubers.

This sounds very pretentious and as well thought out as a farmer on drugs and beer thinking

I suppose the other part of it is that, it's a false logic for me to assume that streamers and top players would stick to sweating it out playing Trials and leave all those sweet sweet blueberry kills on the table, even if Bungie did what I suggested.

Which they'd hate. And then they'd go straight back to threatening Bungie and posting attacks on SBMM again. At this point I think Destiny PvP is a lost cause on many fronts: Matchmaking, Community, weapon Archetype diversity, Class & Subclass balance. Each of those isn't just a bit out of sorts but chronically and acutely broken.
