you are lower than pond scum - old

Don’t forget the multiple years spent slaving away at 4 am and the constant smell of big burly greasy men while being screamed at by earmy

  • You know, I’ve thought about it. But I’m about to graduate college and get a big boy job so I’m not really into it

  • Nice, yeah you chose the smart choice, now if it does interest you still and you get a college degree you can try to become an officer and they are the one's making the money and are the guys in charge.

  • For most Officers its going to be O1-O9, this is where a normal officer would be for any that make it through OCS. Enlisted its E1-E9. Now, for that weird bastardly rank system which truly is different you have the Warrant Officer, W1-CW5. Warrant Officer school an E6 Staff NCO that submitted a package for WO school to become the most professional at his job, Warrant Officers are the highest paid title for any respective Enlisted job field. Warrant Officers are still Officers, thusly Enlisted still salute, but as far as I know they have to salute a regular Commisioned Officer. I am not an expert on WO's so don't quote me on this.

You’re right. It’s the officers who are not officers. My father used to fly cobras and fixed wings

  • Good ole' skids, I was a Powerplants Mech for fixed-wings, did that for five years, and I didn't feel like continuing with my branch, but maybe I will reenlist as prior-service to the Army and go work on Helo's like the Blackhawk. Commisioned Officers are the guys in charge, sometimes they are pilots like with the USN, USAF, and USMC. Army pilots are sometimes Warrant Officers, I don't know if they use Commisioned Officers as pilots as everyone does things differently. USMC Warrant Officers are a rare sight (at least to fixed wing mechs). Over my active duty of 5 years I saw maybe only 2 Warrant Officers, one was a CW3, the other one was a Gunner which had the CW5 bar on one rank and the bursting bomb as the other, a truly I-found-a-unicorn moment, sorry it just blew my mind that I actually found one.

  • My father started at E1 so at least in the 80’s and 90’s they don’t need to be commissioned officers

  • Or could be a Helo pilot thing, I know Army Helo's use WO's as pilots maybe the others do too. I never had any Helo's as all my birds are Jets.
I too started as a Private(E-1) technically I only see myself as the furthest I achieved which was Corporal(E-4), but the month I got out they decided to promote me for like no reason so yes I got out as a Sergeant (E-5), but inside I still feel like a Corporal.
• Yeah. He worked the X-ray machine at fort Benning right down the hall from the flight physical office. Saw some guys doing it and tried out. Now he flys for a commercial airline

  • Nice, well due to personal biases I recommend the Army and Air Force if you join.
Navy is ok, but long journeys via ship are not ideal. Marines, they go where the Navy goes so as above so below, its the -blam!- child of the Navy and Army, but it gets budget cuts, the hand-me-downs, really does do more with less, but thats because it has to
