Quickplay kinda makes sense to have more focus on just kinda free ball matchmaking since quickplay in any game is always just kinda in and out sorts of games. Anything that’s intended to be competitive needs to have SBMM to actually be competitive though. IB, Trials, comp, whatever. Completely obliterating a team of top 25% players when you’re top 500/top 1% isn’t a competition.

 • It doesn't work in destiny though, for several reasons. It's an 8yr old fatigued game, unlike other games its top heavy in skill as in there's a bigger % of good players with years of experience compared to how much cannon fodder there is. In other games you'll see a really good player every 5-6 games, in destiny there's 5-6 in every lobby. In other games the cannon fodder are there to have fun, in destiny the cannon fodder feel forced there by quests, power drops, catalysts, challenges. So no sbmm means you're sending a 70yr old guy into PvP to get bow kills, and he's playing 17yr old crucible god's who literally just play PvP 24/7 with the exact same meta loadout. No pinnacle protection also means the time spent there is usually wasted, and the player feels totally outclassed and useless. Then there's the heavy amount of cheese, awful netcode, no region lock, broken crossplay, broken mods that not everyone has, key exotics not everyone has or can get, and it's just a very very bad experience, it's catered to the better players by an absolute mile, and zero sbmm compounds this.
