The Portal... how its design may serve ALL players, not just those looking to enhance the challenge.
- speculation -
Based on what was shared.
It's been a great week for ME, but I touched base with a buddy of mine... and I got the impression that he thought the game was leaving him behind.
And I want to get in front of the negative propaganda.
If people remember the Swords cards... if you don't I'll explain it:
Essentially the Swords card was an inventory interface that allowed you to tailor Nightfall's to your liking.
This included both negative and positive modifiers, as you did... it modified the score multiplier.
Up 👆 & DOWN 👇.
My speculation IS "The Portal" will operate similarly.
And Bungie kinda' leaked it with the mockup 😬.
Those boxes/ modifiers had variable integers. If modifiers are always "+" you wouldn't need to indicate that with those boxes.
That mean there's are "-" (minus) modifiers in addition to the dedicated deltas (difficulties) shown in the preview.
This COULD also allow for... SOLVE for "variable fireteam loot" as is a standard in many mmos.
Meaning you might be able to add or remove fireteam slots in association with the Portal interface.
You might be able to do a dungeon with 4 people, a raid with 8.
In addition to "minus" modifiers like "heavy weight".
That will and should impact loot viability, rng, and the quality of loot in both directions; plus & minus.
And this is how "The Portal" will serve ALL players.
Those are my thoughts, of how the system will work.
