In-game Advertisements

So Bungie said there would be no monthly subscription fees and then most of us instantly thought micro-transactions. I personally hate in-game purchases like that (unless its just new colours or something), the pay-to-win thing is so unfair and completely ruins the game. So, as an alternative, how would you feel about in-game advertising? Imagine walking around a city/village or whatever and seeing a banner advertising Fairy Liquid! IMO this is a much better solution as its much safer than relying on people spending extra money on useless goods and Bungie can also monitor the most visited places within the game so as to place adverts there thus increasing views and in turn profits.

  • Why would there need to be monthly subscription fees? In the past bungie has never done anything of the sort. Also this is not described as an mmo and therefore will be different than an mmo. So I wouldn't be surprised to see no in game transactions and no monthly fee. I wouldn't be opposed to in-game advertisements as long as they are not obnoxious.

  • I would be fine with seeing advertisements on billboards or kiosks like in Mass Effect.

I'm against the in-game advertisements thing. I don't want to be in the middle of the forest, searching for a sign of life, to then run up to a post with a flier on it saying "Buy Razer Controller!" This is set in a post-apocalpytic earth/universe, for there to even be advertisements make no sense at all, who would be advertising to a civilization on the verge of extinction? +It's visual pollution honestly. I'd rather go with no micro-transactions or anything at all but if there is anything, make it just customization related without hampering on the already in-game customizations options. Honestly, this idea that Bungie has to include something is annoying just because the fact that Bungie has never done that before. With Activision breathing down their necks I hope no micro-transactions or anything related occurs. Give me DLC and I'll purchase it; don't distract me from playing the game with buying micro transactions, because micro-transactions just show that the actual game itself isn't a finished product and if you want the finished product you have to buy in-game downloads that total to 30 dollars in 20 different transactions. Bungie hasn't done it before, I expect them to not do it again.

    • The ad's would have to be designed to fit within the universe, but still advertise the product.

    • It wouldn't be the first time Bungie put Adverts in their game...

    • As long as it wasn't obnoxious and in my face. If I'm in Destiny and I'm in a city, I might come across a billboard advertising Razer or something. It's advertising, it's not ruining my game experience, and it's not removing me from being immersed in the universe. So I'd be OK with it, as long as it's not everywhere like the Xbox Dashboard...

      • Honestly I don't know why any developers aren't putting in-game ads. There is a huge opportunity for some extra cash by putting real ads in MP maps or loading screens. As long as they aren't forced on you like pop ups or anything like that then I don't think people would mind. I see a lot of fake ads in some games so why not just put real ones?

Halo 3 had a profit of $300,000,000+ in it's first week. That is 5,000,000 X60. I don't think there will be real money transactions in Destiny when it launches.

            • I think it takes away from the realism and is annoying. I paid $60, I don't want ads.

              • I'd much rather microtransactions than in-game advertising. Microtransactions are totally optional.

              • I feel it is abhorrently distracting. Especially where it does not fit in the slightest. With the way I see this game being designed I do not see Bungie doing anything above cosmetic things. Pay to Win would just destroy the type of game they are trying to make. Of course we will have to wait and see unfortunately.
