P.S. Technically Bungie is worth almost billion dollar less than the previous evaluation, for those of you who love pedantry.

  • Explain what it means like I'm 13 brother, I'm not reading that 😆..... I was waiting for the earnings call next week 😁

  • Someone made a good analogy: think of it like buying a home or car. It was worth 3.6 billion. But the market has changed and currently worth less with these impairments. Pretty straightforward.

  • Except it was worth 2.2 not 3.6. 1.2 or 1.4 was staff retention & so bonus for staying to staff, not part of the valuation, but yeah I got the rest 👍

  • Sony earning report states Bungie is now worth at minimum (and likely more) 750 million dollars less. Add this to the previous loss of value and this is considered very bad. The level of content and communication we have received is already at bare minimum. What happens when Bungie has even fewer resources allocated?

So 750m less from the valuation before which was 2.2b, or the payment Inc the retention payments which was 3.6b. I'm assuming the later. The great gutting is coming I'd assume, shareholders need to know how this gets put right.

  • They bought it for $2.2(2.4?) billion but valued it to be worth $3.6 billion. Yet in the last two years they have had to devalue that estimation on their balance sheet totaling a loss of $756 million because of under-performance from Bungie.

  • No, they bought it at 2.2, Microsoft valued it at 2.0 & backed out. 1.6 I think was staff retention, they valued staff knowledge almost as much as the studio as they'd hoped to use it on other Sony games. It's typical in buyouts bcoz if they bought bungie then staff all left the value tanks, they usually give staff shares or payments over time - my old company got bought out & we got shares that we couldn't sell for 3 years, bungie got payments over time alongside stipulations. Those retention payments are now completed, so the initial value stands at 2.2m.
