Catalysts, Weapons and Shaders

Dear Bungie, Please let players earn weapons, catalysts and shaders in various ways. I'd prefer not being locked into a certain type of activity in order access these items. Crucible players like Crucible. Iron Banner players like Iron Banner. I get it. I know it's just a game but I have never been comfortable with "killing" guardians just to access a particular game item. It's always seemed to be counterintuitive to "kill" someone (Guardians) whom I ought to be cooperating with in order to save humanity, do justice, help the needy (i.e., This season's Eliksni). It's one of the best features of Destiny 2; working together toward a common good goal. It's also a theme I've noticed in the last few seasons being presented by in-game characters (Crow expressing his feelings about killing Eliksni being "different" when you know them, Saladin stating that he was wasting his time officiating the Iron Banner instead of training Guardians while the Cabal under Caitl grew in power, Eliksni comments on how Guardians waste their "resurrections" in games instead of appreciating and thoughtfully using what has been given to them). I fully expect to receive a lot of comments related to what I am writing from the community here, not Bungie. (For example: Dude, it's just a game. Get a life. Are you serious? Don't like it, don't play it. It's not reality, etc). I've heard similar comments before. However, Bungie and others, just mull it over. Lastly, If at some point I've made a comment that is unclear please let me know and I will attempt to clarify my thoughts for anyone interested. Thanks for an otherwise really fun game, Bungie! (And to the players who make it fun to play too :)

  • I have managed to obtain and unlock all catalysts in the game apart from 3 now. The first is the vex mythoclast catalyst - as I do not have the weapon yet this is locked behind RNG for me. I have done VOG quite a few times now but must confess I am tired of grinding for this one reward. I got eyes after 38 runs so am not really into repeating that experience again and my window of opportunity will probably close when bungie make it a non pinnacle activity (no one will want to run it anymore). The second is the Mida multi tool catalyst - I have played comp a fair bit but tbh this is quite punishing for the average player to obtain without a dedicated fireteam to support you in the grind up to legend each week. If bungie increased the drop chance at the lower ranks I might try for it, but for now it’s on my unobtainable list. The third is the fourth horseman catalyst there is currently no way to obtain it in game.

    • Tbh at this point I just wish they would change crucible win catalysts to crucible match completions. Most of those catalysts require pvp kills with guns anyway, but the need for wins makes an already low drop rate cut further in half.

    • Just thinking about the amount of guardian bodies that have fallen off the tower and went crashing down into the streets of the last city.... Probably landing on cars, houses, traffic lights, cats, ice cream trucks, heck probably even citizens that don't have a ghost to revive them. Then that guardian body gets revived and you can hear a little chuckle like "haha dude I was afk y u push me lolzzz" We're sick creatures, us guardians.

    • The prospect of getting a specific reward in only one playlist helps draw players to said playlist. Weapons like the adept variants belong in said playlists as a final reward for people who grind and mindlessly play until they pass out (or pay to be carried, not angry just a little disappointed in you if you do). Iron banner weapons are fine where they are, they are there as an incentive to participate nothing more. (Trust me I’m with you on the pvp thing, but if I want one of them I just do what I can until I succeed.) Specific catalysts I wouldn’t mind having them drop from activities that nobody plays anymore to keep them relevant. As for shader...... meh dime a dozen. I don’t play this game to be fashionable. I’m either solid green or hot pink. In regards to personal feeling about slaughtering your own on a combat field for sport. It’s a way for guardians to keep their edge when not out on patrol. Not all guardians are out purging the galaxy of its foes. If a blade grows dull from disuse what then; when enemies are at the door? How can one protect those they cherish with rust?

      • Crucible is seen as training of that helps you see it as not bad to do.
