I need some tips for pvp, and how to try to keep relaxed.

Hi, sorry to bother peoples time with reading, I wanted to know if there are some ways to help me improve in crucible and Gambit? (Invading/dealing with invaders), I am just going to say, I'm not good, nor able to improve very well, not because of a meta, not because of matchmaking or what other excuses there is. I honestly do what to improve, there are some really amazing looking weapons that I've really wanted to get (mostly the trio-of hand cannons, I love the gunplay of last word.) But the problem is, is that I just can't seem to get in kills, it took me 2 matches to get ONE percent on the thorn's kill with void hand cannons quest. I find it really hard to not panic whenever I see an enemy, (I have anxiety when it comes to being pressured, and being pressured with players all over scare me) Is there anything I can do in terms of tips and or practice to help me? Anything that could assist me or teach me would be really helpful, thank you. I hope you are currently having a good day!

  • I hated the thought of PVP at the beginning. Used to really stress me out big time. Now I love it, just spend time watching other players and practice. I would love to be able to snipe but I'm rubbish.. Practice. Good luck!

  • Stop playing it just do pvp when you need to get an item it’s a sad excuse for trash compared to other games. It’s not unique either it’s just an active radar to much team play and select meta weapons with every match consisting of the same thing !

      • Hey, after not playing the game for 2 years and coming back recently I found myself at the lower tier of player when I started. My first 2/3 weeks i was going negative in almost all my games. But, I quickly remembered the importance of team shotting, not peaking when your health is low, running away when necessary, and try your best to focus on headshots for the extra damage. Use your abilities to your advantage, an opening grenade/melee ability could help massively in certain situations Also if you’re on PC, try to plug in a controller and see how it feels compared to KBM. The auto aim could help you greatly. hope this helps a little, good luck!

        • If you want to get good with Hand Cannons, I Recommend Precision Frames to start out with. Then Adaptive, last High Impact. Precision Frames: Nation of the Beast's (Suros) Luna's Not Forgotten Ikelos HC Adaptive Frames: Spare Rations Nation of Beast(LW) Gospel (GOS) High Impact Frames: Crimls Dagger(Iron Banner) Exotic Hand Cannons are also good. I recommend Crimson,Strum,Thorn,Last Word. I'd Say Crimson is probably your best bet at becoming acclimated with the Way of the Hand Cannons. Definitely start with Precision Frames and Crimson.

Easy. Whenever you die, ask yourself: "What could I have done to avoid that?" A huge majority of deaths in Crucible are avoidable mistakes, such as wandering off by yourself, not being ready for that charging shotgunner coming around the corner, and overextending into exposed areas like sniper lanes or into the crosshairs of that guy charging his Bastion. As a fledging PvP player, the best thing you can do is stick by your teammates and provide cover fire. You will get kills and keep your party alive.

Telesto and gnawing hunger will give you progress, just at a slower rate. So will truth and colony.

          • For the thorn quest you can simply use any void special and heavy. Use a void subclass. Yes you can get it finished quicker if you use a void handcannon and get precision and multi kills however if you struggle to get kills switch to other void weapons. Telesto is easy to use. Many options to choose from that could make the quest progress quicker for you.

          • One thing that I’ll help keep you alive is watching your radar and learning the meanings to all of the radar blips. Fallout plays made two videos on this. Other people have made great suggestions like sticking with teammates, and so on. Also don’t focus to much on winning, there are some good match ups and terrible ones.

          • Go play momentum control it plays more like Call of duty. It's as close as you'll get to a hardcore mode in destiny. You run in there and do the bounties you need for your guns and get a better feel for the game play. It's also really easy to complete exotics catalyst in.

            • My personal recommendation is to just go into a playlist, make a very VERY conscious effort to not tense up, especially your hands because that will send your aim all over the place. Don't aim down the sights until your reticle is as close to the enemy as it can be, and only take shots that are headshots. You WILL get slaughtered. Over and over and over some more, but the point isn't getting kills or maximizing your k/d. You are only in those matches to learn how to line up shots and staying relaxed. If you have a friend who will sit in a private match with you, then do it that way. Have them start by just moving around with very basic movements while you try to kill them, then get them to add in jumping and sliding, then finally have them play you for real with gunfire after you've learn to kill them in all the evasive techniques.

            • Start by extending your life. Forget kd or kad. Run a drill where your goal is not to die. This is harder than it seems. To do this you’ll learn to constantly watch radar and you’ll begin to anticipate where fights are because you’ll be focused on where your teammates are, where spawns are, sounds, basically all the stuff that you don’t focus on because you’re anxious about fighting, aiming down sights, and losing situational awareness. You’ll learn that you need to constantly move fast to cover. Hug walls, run behind things that break line of sight. Stay out of lanes and open areas. After you learn how to read the game and move to extend your life more. Start working on adding verticality to your movement until its second nature. Burst glide to cover. Slide in and out of cover. Jump around corners and over doors. Then when you feel like movement in and out of cover is really extending your life, start working on getting assists - not kills. Play your life. Bit by bit, those assists will become kills, but your movement and game awareness will take you to the middle to top of the board more often. I’m not a great pvp player, but I’ve gone from terrible to the middle / top of the board regularly enough to have fun. Even now with small sweaty cbmm lobbies. You can get better. Good posts elsewhere in this thread. Eyes up and good luck.

            • I'm not particularly good either but I am better than i was so will offer some advice for you to take or to leave. Equip yourself with a meta weapon. Gnawing hunger will be a good start. Now, stick with a teammate. Once you respawn, don't look for a zone to cap or a red blip on your radar, find teammates. Follow until they engage an enemy and then try and get a few of your shots into the mix. You 2 against 1 will have a more favourable outcome. Once you start to get more kills on the board (all praise kad) you'll start to grow in confidence, that'll help you improve in other areas. I absolutely sucked at online gaming when d1 first dropped. Then I discovered pocket infinity..... oh the fun I had!

Honestly not sure can give accurate advice for the anxiety issues since it's not something I got personal experience in. But maybe you're imagining the pressure because the pvp scenarios aren't something you're yet completely used to? And I don't mean imagining as in a degratory way, simply in the fact that any pressure you feel really only does exist inside your head. Anxiety usually means lack of confidence. Confidence can be built by establishing control over the situation. Feeling in control becomes easier when you break down and rationalize what's happening so you understand it. To begin rationalizing, instead of feeling down / defeated when killed instead ask yourself why did I die. There's always an answer that's not the fault of your opponent; Did I miss a shot, did I not make my opponent miss his shot, was I out in the open being shot by more than 1 opponent, did I engage without full health, did I not disengage soon enough, was I too far out of cover to get back in fast enough, was my loadout bad for the engagement? And on and on. There's always a reason. Ask the question after every death. Take the moment to answer it. The more you do it the easier the answers become. And when you're aware of your mistakes you can fix them. Think what you could've done differently to change the result. Now you're learning and improving regardless of losing the engagements & matches. You're in control. Winning / losing doesn't matter. The scoreboard doesn't matter. KDA's irrelevant. Learning and improving makes all the difference long-term and can be done regardless of the engagement & match results.

              • You sound like me. I really love Gambit so I pretty much do a crap load of it. I too was a nervous when I started trying to figure out how to kill the invading guardians and what helped me is I learned the maps and have 90% figured out where they are going to spawn, so I keep a look out for them and try to nail them with my rocket launcher OR if I can get close enough without getting killed, I use my auto rifle or pop my super at the right moment. Now when it comes to me invading, I'm still a bit newish and I get excited if I can come back with 1 kill but once you start invading, you will also learn the spawn points and then you can start figuring out your plan of attack. It's all a work in progress and once you invade a few times you will start getting more comfortable and remember..if you get killed off, just laugh it off and roll with it. You will eventually get better. Now, Crucible is another story..I suck bad at it but I keep at it and now I can at least get a few kills in each match. The more you do, the better you get. Have I bored you all yet? LOL!

              • Please watch the videos, they are some of the best I've found. Go into private matches to learn names of map locations (name is on the left side of screen), good for callouts when you play in a team. That can help with map knowledge and then you can also practice jumps and how to travel around the map.     Playing in the mornings can be easier than in the evenings. My favorite is weekend mornings.     Using meta weapons and a strong offensive super definitely helps. Use what works, use want Bungie gives you that is strong and don't mind what people say about "cheap" weapons. Take what's yours!     If you cant find good people in LFG to play with, its probably because their skill level is better than yours (no offense meant), I also run into this issue. I have an approximate 1.2 KD and 1.7 KDA. I try to use solo matchmaking help me find friends. If you play some matches and you like one or two people you played with, send them a "GG" good game, and ask if they would like to party up and play together. Why I think this is a good idea, Bungie matched you up with them, they probably have a similar skill level and are in a similar spot in grinding glory.     Use bonus points to your advantage. If you play 3 games a week, you can get a 120 glory bonus. If you play all 12 weeks, that’s 1440 free points. You only need 660 points to get to fabled.     Practice in Rumble or QP new weapons and supers     Practice in Rumble your one on one skills. If you cant kill one person by yourself, it will be much harder for you to help out your team.  Maybe invite other people you see struggling in PvP and invite them to play private matches and work on one on one skills or 4 vs 4 or whatever. Grow together.   Probably common knowledge, If you are the only one with a super, that can be a great time to use yours. No one around to counter you easily with a super of their own. Also you start generating orbs for your team mates so they can get their supers going.     Watch Youtube strategy videos from Coolguy, True Vanguard, CammyCakes, Aztecross Gaming. Some of these guys even have their own Discord channels where you can LFG with their fans. I had good success with Coolguys.     Some videos to improve game play.     https://youtu.be/74e3mByi0d0     https://youtu.be/sHqiawMXHtI https://youtu.be/3lkQ5ovg4t4     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3RXO22ct2w     https://youtu.be/hRrLSbizeKk     https://youtu.be/oEqrWYQMoAM     Super Mods, weapon scavenger perks, targeting Mods, Reload Mods, Dexterity and resilience Mods. Masterwork armor for more defense while in super form.     On console, I use jumper controls. It allows me to punch and jump without having to take my thumb off of the look stick (practice new controls in pve, try doing a jumping punch (or shotgun) on someone's head). I also use an Elite controller, it allows me to put a button on the bottom of the controller so I can crouch or slide without taking my thumbs off the sticks. I recently started putting a button under the controller for the action button so I can shoot while I revive or disactivate a bomb and not be a sitting duck. The elite controller allows me to play other games and make the button layout identical to destiny so my buttons don't get mixed up in my head.
