I'm sorry but I find this unacceptable...

I came across this video yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RsrAyM5kV9w This is clearly a problem but what annoyed me the most was Cozmo's reply to a Reddit thread about this a couple of months ago:
I spoke with the dev team and this is by design. We were trying to address the problem of when you have 1 shared life left and everyone dies at once through a Multikill, who gets to come back and use that last life for the Team? When a Multikill happens, there is no simple way to understand who died first, so we don’t know who “deserves” to come back. Instead of being frustrated at the teammate who got magically chosen to be brought back in, we decided it was better to revive everyone. It is an infrequent edge case, and we felt it was a better team experience to not have to be angry at your teammates because they got in and you didn’t.
Source: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/dvdzna/survival_mulitkills_only_removes_1_live_from_the/f7ch0pm/?context=3&st=k30itv67&sh=9667ad7b While I can understand their point, you can't just leave it without some sort of a compromise. I think it's extremely unfair on the team who could have won the round/game if this didn't take place. As mentioned in the video, in that situation, it's more optimal for you to try and get a pick first and then use your super. If you do it the other way round, your multikill will literally count as 1 kill. Hope this raises awareness of this issue and something is done about it. I don't want to imagine how many people have been impacted by this over the years it's been around.

  • I agree with you, they should just leave it to RNG.

Who should be brought back? Oh, I don’t know, the guy at the top of the scoreboard maybe?

  • What this is a thing? If you get wiped by a multikill with 1 life then everyone comes back? And to think people have egos over this game and take it seriously. Laughing

  • When this happens, why not throw lives back to the multi-killing team? 3 kills only count as 1, give 2 bonus lives to the attacking team...

  • ^ Bump OP!!! This is ridiculous! The fact that the enemy team gets 2 extra lives in a 1vs3 situation is such bullshit. What in the hell like were getting punished for playing well in COMP. This post clearly shows that the team behind PvP does not know what they are doing. Way to go Bungo

  • Just randomize it in this special case.

  • Give the fire team leader the choice... Just let the team choose who comes back

If it's such an edge case, why make your decision based on the possible reaction of the edge minority affected by adverse RNG not picking them. And here is the kicker- Bungie love RNG, they use it for everything, for rewards, for titles, for mission availability..etc....but not in places it makes SENSE

  • Personally im ok with this. Lots of games are like this anyways, and it works. Sure, you might end up hurting the players who get a kill with heavy, but with a super i agree with the mechanic.

    • Thats the stupidest thing I’ve ever read, what kind of bs is this? What a way to screw the players that make a huge play only to get penalized for doing so. What should happen is the game should consider the kill feed in the screen and use that to determine who gets revived. Where is the common sense?

What ridiculous nonsense and typical snowflake mentality. Everyone gets a participation trophy just so one person’s feelings don’t get hurt. This is the same garbage that is holding the game back and preventing raid matchmaking. Even if the if someone is randomly chosen, chances are that his teammates wouldn’t figure out what happened let alone be uspet that they didn’t get chosen. Meanwhile, the opposing team that made the play is not only more likely to get frustrated at this bullshit unfair mechanic, but it might actually incentivise them to leave the game, since it actively PUNISHES them for making good plays, as another poster mentioned his reaction being that. Furthermore, as others have suggested, instead of randomness, which Bungie is very familiar with, they could simply pick the person with the highest kills, etc: This is just such incredibly dumb shortsighted design choice that only serves as further proof of their devs’ severe incompetence and stupidity. No wonder they lost over 16 million players. Being against meritocracy does that to you.

      • If it's that hard to decide, let your system do it's thing and whoever has the most kills comes back. It is extremely frustrating to be the last one alive in a 1v4 and get a multikill, only to have it still be a 1v3. I've been in the 1v4 situation where I get a triple kill, and have all three spawn back up and I lose the round. I love getting punished for playing well.

        • This is really silly but it's Bungie. They couldn't think of a way to decide who should be respawned so took the lazy option, completely forgetting the fact that this is a comp situation and it's hardly fair to magically give a team two extra lives becuase of thier lazy design. I mean come on, you could have just made it whoever came 1st alaphabetically, or who had the best game stats or anything, it's really not hard to think of a factor to use to decide this. Worrying the other two players that might not get picked might be salty truly is laughable. Sure it's going to be uncommon but it will still happen and it's just lame. This being said, you only have to look at the trajectory of the game and design decisions that have been made for the entirety of D2 and this seems like abslutely nothing in comparison.

Wow, so now it's ok to punish a player for a clutch multikill so that a team on the receiving end doesn't get frustrated? I can't even.

              • Overreactions across the board to this. Yea its definitely not right that the enemy team is getting screwed over but its a very valid point that he brought up and Im glad to see they actually thought of that. Although I do agree with the suggestion of person with the most kills gets brought back for a fix.

                • Each player gets two lives. Use em and your done. My issue with survival is one player can tank a whole team. Personally, i feel that Destiny really doesn't need a full time competitive mode and having trials on the weekend was enough. The game is too unbalanced to be a competitive shooter.

                • Thank you for this post. In this case I disagree with the developer's design decision. I would prefer to see the game randomly choose to bring one guardian back into the fight. This seems more in line with a lot of Bungie's narrative themes as well, i.e. being chosen by fate to stand and fight.

                • What an absolute joke. The mentality of the devs is why PvP has always been held back from being as special as everyone knows it can be. The game being FAIR for all players is the #1 rule for a multiplayer game. They need to replace the Crucible team with devs that have experience making competitive multiplayer games.

                • Seems like the simple solution to decide who should respawn in this situation would be the player that is currently at the top of the board among those who died (i.e most opponents defeated/ most damage).

                  • You really can not complain about how the things in Destiny are done. Little to nothing makes sense in the game anyway. Your character moves faster in the air than on the ground getting momentum. Sparrows that acts like a hovercraft with a rocket engine that will only propel you across the ground as if you have wheels. Mobs that look exactly alike but have a huge difference in power. Falling from heights that you are sure you're going to die from taking little to no damage. then dying from what amounted to stubbing a toe. So ANYTHING can happen in a game that makes no sense. MANY times I've battled through a 15 to 20 minute event just to get weaseled seconds before it ends. Bungie hasn't addressed many small problems and now there are many big problems.
