Feedback for Future Content (opinions on D1 & D2)

Rumor has it that Destiny 3 is already in the works. I don't know how true that is, but in the event that it is, I felt like taking a look back at both D1 & D2 to see what worked and what didn't. Please feel free to comment whatever feedback you feel would be good for D2 updates or what you'd like to see implemented in D3. And if your do disagree with someone's opinion, please keep the discussion respectful while sharing counterarguments. I want this to be a good, clean, and thoughtful conversation. Also, while I wholeheartedly agree that Enhancement cores should be taken out of infusion, please don't make a comment here just to complain about it. There are more than enough threads to talk about that. One last thing to mention is that while I have a clan, I mostly play PvE content solo. I don’t really do all that much with crucible or raids (especially from D1) so I don’t feel I can give good feedback in those areas. Therefore, I’d really like to see what you all think of those activities. Anyway, here are my personal thoughts on D1 and D2: D1 Pros: -Unique and atmospheric maps to explore with good expansion areas: D2 base and forsaken had some good areas, but the mercury and mars expansions were lacking. Overall, I personally liked the D1 locations more. -Neat options for customization like armor glow chroma, armor ornaments, etc. -Designs for guns, armor (especially warlock armor), and ships were awesome! Seriously, bring this stuff back! -more options for subclass customization: not limited to three branches for perks/buffs per subclass -Prison of elders! -factions -vendors sold more useful items: D2 is starting to get better with vendor usage, but man I do miss getting the ammo transmat stuff from banshee. D2 Pros: -introduction of class abilities: dodge, barrier, and rift -Guardians can grab onto ledges and pull themselves up: thank heaven for the person who included this feature! -more supers for subclasses -shaders can be applied to ships, guns, sparrows, and individual armor pieces -pinnacle weapons: I realize this is a subject of controversy for some, but I honestly feel it’s good to have unique legendary weapons to chase across multiple activities. What if we took it further and had weapons like these for lost sectors, public events, etc? -gambit and unique rewards for gambit: now that fewer people are using sleeper Cons for both: -no reward for exploration: even though lost sectors sounded like a good idea at first, their charm burns out fast when they offer next to nothing in return. I always found the worlds of Destiny very atmospheric, but was disappointed in how little there is to actually discover in them. If there were some worthwhile rewards or useful secret areas to find like the whisper of the worm quest, exploration would be exciting. Dreaming city had a little bit of this, but I feel like it could go further -RNG for perks: For things like guns and armor, I can understand using RNG. But when armor and weapons have RNG determine their perks, that’s where it becomes a point of frustration to me. I’ll spend all this time grinding for loot only to feel that it got wasted when it finally does drop but with perks that are hardly relevant to my playstyle. It becomes even worse with harder to get items like weapons from raids. If I’m going to pour this many hours into a game, I want to feel like the time I invested in it was worthwhile. I know this system of RNG perks does help limit the amount of over-powered rolls in the game, but at the same time I just feel like relying on luck is overly frustrating. Small base games: When I first got into destiny 1, I bought the complete collection with everything up to rise of iron. So of course, I thought I’d hit the jackpot with all the content I got. But when I bought Destiny 2’s base game and realized this was what everyone’s first experience with Destiny 1 was like, I could understand why a lot of people were so ticked when the game launched. -Over-Grinding: The grinding I’m talking about is the stuff that we’ve been seeing in Black Armory. I’m okay with some grinding, but making us grind through something like the Izanagi forge quest for some of the main content seems a little tedious. And if taking grinding of that caliber is out of the question, then at the very least make it an account wide quest, not a per-character quest. Stuff that would be awesome in future content: -more subclasses/supers: Along with darkness-based subclasses, I think it’d be nice to get some more light based subclasses and supers as well. -Customization upgrade: Armor ornaments and chroma glow would be an appreciated reintegration, but what if we could customize guns, ships, and sparrows with markings and attachments the way we could customize the faces of our guardians? -Revisit old areas: Once again, this is just me talking because I loved some of the Destiny 1 locations so much, but if a new expansion/game reopened up all the old areas, that would sweeten the deal a lot! -Ability to skip campaign/quests on additional characters: Something along the lines of the upgrade item we saw in D1, so we don't have to grind campaigns/quests all over again. To avoid making this post any longer than it already is, I’m going to end it there. But what do you guys think about the future of Destiny? If you could change anything with the last few games, what would you change? What would you add to future content?
