Although I agree with you that most of the Cabal ¨scout legions¨ in D1 weren´t true legions; I disagree somewhat with your assesment of how they worked relative to each other. This how I interpret the workings of the Cabal Legions: Sand Eaters: They are generalists, line infantry and constituted the bulk of the Cabal forces in Mars during D1. Siege Dancers: They are a cavalry regiment specializing in siege warfare attached to the Sand Eaters. Dust Giants: They are a spec ops shock troops aka stormtroopers regiment attached to the Sand Eaters. Ice Reapers or is it Ice Reavers?: They are a spec ops regiment formed to leverage the capabilities of the Psion Flayers. Blind Legion: They are a spec ops recon regiment specializing in Vex arqueotech. Despite their importance they are seemingly attached to the Sand Eaters. Skyburners: They are a regiment of marines directly attached to the Cabal Fleet stationed on Mar´s moons. They are deployed separatedly from the Sand Eaters. Broken Legion: They are a rogue military unit. A legion in name only. Come D2 things become more complicated. Both the Red Legion and the Loyalists give me a competing Royal Guards vibe. The difference is how both approach the same job: The Loyalists are more akin to bodyguards. The Red Legion are more like the Napoleonic Old Guard. They are held in reserve, as an ace in the hole, deployed against the direst of threats.

None of the other troops we’ve faced are Ice Reavers, only the Flayers themselves
Blind Legion: They are a spec ops recon regiment specializing in Vex arqueotech.
Yep
Despite their importance they are seemingly attached to the Sand Eaters.
That’s actually probably because once the Blind Legion takes an area the Sand Eaters come in and start reinforcing their territory.
Skyburners: They are a regiment of marines directly attached to the Cabal Fleet stationed on Mar´s moons. They are deployed separatedly from the Sand Eaters. Although I myself think the Skyburners are superiors to the other Legions, especially when considering that the Primus is directly tied to them
Come D2 things become more complicated. It is the biggest and best army, so when the scouting legions find a threat or something valuable they send the Red Legion. The Loyalists are just those that are still loyal to Calus. I’d say “enforcers” is a more accurate term than “bodyguards”. “Resistance forces” may even be the best term

 • Thinking about it, I agree with your assesment of the Loyalists. I got thrown right off the mark by the fact that: They are only present in the Leviathan. Regarding the Red Legion, I´m starting to think that both of our assements are right. But during different time periods. My assesment applies to the interval between Ghaul becoming it´s Primus and the Midnight Coup. Your assesment describes the Red Legion we face during Destiny 2.

 • Yeah the Loyalists are tricky to figure out lol. Actually, we know that Calus has agents and scouts working outside of the Leviathan, so not all of the Loyalists are on the ship. Plus they leave the ship frequently to run Calus’ errands and fight his enemies Right I forgot to consider the Red Legion before the coup. This post really was just focused on the *now* with a little bit of history thrown in. We very well could both be right considering change over time lol
