It seems like Warlocks were redefined in D2, rather than improved upon.

(For the reference, I'm a Hunter main who plays Warlock as a hobby.) Here's a comparison of some of the Warlock abilities between D1 and D2. So, in D1, Voidwalker specifically, you had Energy Drain and Life Steal/Surge to quickly recover and get back in the action with grenades. And getting grenade kills would, in return, give you Energy Drain again (given that you Embraced the Void). Now, Voidwalkers with the Attunement of Chaos get a worse version of Energy Drain (with the melee), and get few, but damaging grenades. I believe this should be reworked to where instead of draining your super to overcharge your grenade, you should be able to drain your super to "recharge" your grenade. Giving back the synergy that Voidwalker was known for. Now moving on to the solar subclasses. In D1, the most well-known and mostly perceived to be the main melee ability for Sunsinger was Flame Shield. (This granted an overshield after meleeing an enemy.) But when we transferred to D2, we got Dawnblade, and the melee ability for the Attunement of Flame was a rework of Brimstone... (and the melee ability for Attunement of Sky was a rework of Voidwalker's Surge, but I'm gonna focus on Brimstone here cause Surge is better than Brimstone.) So, brimstone... the least popular Sunsinger melee ability in D1, even though it had a reduced cooldown opposed to the base 60 seconds, now has a 60-second cooldown, only so that you can cause a Firefly/Dragonfly-like perk IF you get a kill. Plus you can't even generate orbs anymore on kills, so... RIP. So, just, take it that I want to see Flame Shield back. I know I left out Stormcaller, but that's just because I have little experience with the subject. Now, here's just an idea, don't judge the rest of my post according to this:
If Titans have Ward of Dawn, let the Attunement of Sky on Dawnblade bring back self-res, and make it so that when you activate your super from beyond the grave, you would be in Radiance instead of Daybreak. That way there is a reason to activate it while you're alive, instead of always waiting until you're dead to activate it. ("It" being the super.)
Edit: Changed title, it was misleading, and also restructured my thoughts within this post.

  • Armor and resilience are still terrible. I feel like Warlock dies everytime a strong breeze blows through area.

  • I'm a warlock main class since D1, year 1. I have never been completely happy with warlock because i was under the impression it was a real mage ( SPACE MAGIC ! ) when the game was first being advertised. Anyway, i feel that the warlock has been nerfed and over simplified in its redesign. Lets look. BLINK: *Looks cool but does nothing in PvE. Is it meant for PvP use? As a dodge? See below. *Has a tail on it now that lets you visually track me (an old nerf) but now i loose my own radar when i do it. *Never been spamable (rightly so) But, can i double/triple jump with no cooldown as long as my hunter's feet touch the ground in between activation? Is the Titan skate/shoulder charge and double/triple jump functional in PvP and PvE? The Go fast update (which i love) fixed the slow gliding skeet shot that i used to be in the crucible but does not increase the movement speed of my warlock (or any guardian) which allows for an advanced "sprint/warp-slide/warp" play style that only a warlock can finish. (everyone can sprint and slide) *No I-Frames (debatable. The skill, although not spamable, can still be used again after a few seconds) GRENADES: I feel like all of the voidwalker's base grenades are trash. Nothing new for Destiny 2. They need to be devoured or enhanced with the super meter to be useful. (Very good addition to the class) *Vortex grenade should last a bit longer and have a subtle 'gravity well' effect that only effects you if you are already in the vortex. (actually got hit with the grenade) *Scatter grenades area of effect should be wider and the explosions more violent. Its looking like scattered pixie dust with a mild skin irritant right now. grenade is the key word. Whether it should track you too is debatable. *Axion bolt's initial explosion does not do damage at all when you actually hit someone with the grenade. And, anyone can trot away from that slow, weak and short lived seeker that spawns from that non-damaging explosion. I've never seen more than one seeker follow a guardian even when he was the sole person in the Area of Effect. more to come. will edit later

I'd personally just much rather be able to use Radiance like Defenders can use Ward of Dawn. If they could give it an inherent Song of Flame, that would be even better. Dawnblade feeling flat was a big reason why I dropped D2, and I think that this would make the subclass feel a little more alive.
And if they dropped the stupid tree system and let us do what we wanted with perks, I might actually come back to the game.
• I’ve never played enough Voidwalker in D1 to get a feel for the synergies, so I’ll just talk about the Sunsinger perks you discussed. By bringing back Radiance and the “Fireborn” perk, we would see many warlock’s saving their super till the eventual wipeout of their fireteam. This goes against what Bungie intended for D2, (I believe they said something like this) which was the use of supers more often. It would also be hard in trying to balance as we need to make it work for PvP and PvE. “Flame Shield” would be fun and very useful when compared to “Igniting Touch/Brimstone” but annoying for Bungie to balance as salty people will complain about. Both Dawnblade ability trees actually feel pretty solid right now, and working the “Fireborn” resurrection perk into a tree would be difficult to manage and balance. If Bungie were to add another ability tree, like how there were three seperate options for modifying a subclass in D1, then maybe we could see resurrection/radiance again but as an alternate ability recharging/support tree. As for Stormcaller, it is overall great at the moment and doesn’t really need an overhaul. Maybe a tweak or two, but I don’t know.

      • If our Brimstone-like melee could generate orbs again... I miss punching the lead in a group of thrall and generating 4+ orbs with a single melee.

      • I’d rather have Radiance than Daybreak anyways, as long as I keep the glide speed.

        • Sunsinger was garbage and fundementally broken in D1. Self rez broke the game rules in pve and should never come back. If dying was how your class was useful that's a problem. end of. DoT was over tuned and then it became useless via nerfs. leaving you with a semi decent melee that basically won melee engagements for you. Dawnblade is MUCH much better. You finally have real killing power in pve with it. One is more about killing and the other is more about mobility. If D2 warlocks had the self sustainability of D1 they would be broken in pvp. I vastly prefer D2's voidwalker because it ups my AOE damage/kill potential with one tree. and I still have a more "survival" loadout with the other but it's actually balanced. Not to mention they got to keep blink. and the very interesting charge nade mechanic. Warlocks are the mobile damage class now. And as a hunter main (who played a boat load of all 3 classes in the last game and this game) it actually annoys me.

          • Bring radiance back instead of daw blade, but make it so that self rezing would change the super. After revving yourself, you would have drastically reduced movement speed and no weapons, but a huge aoe burn affect that also blinds enemies. This would prevent people from using the super just for the self Rez, because if you Rez when there’s no enemies in your circle they can just kill you quite easily from afar. Using this skill tree and activating the super while alive would be just regular old radiance.

              • not a fan of the brimstone melee. if you don't kill its just a wasted skill. if it doesn't trigger the explosion what does it do? that not a rhetorical question. i wish the skill would trigger only on a kill, just like arcstrider melee.

                  • Honestly, I wouldn't mind one bit if Bungie scrapped Dawnblade and brought back Sunsinger. I miss all the self-revive shenanigans. Making clutch saves in PvE while playing mindgames with your opponents in PvP, or slapping on Radiant Skin and going on rampages with Firebolts. At least, before Bungie started nerfing the crap out of it.

                    • Hunger Warlock is pretty nice, seeing as any kills count. Slowabomb is a bit too slow for my liking but damn if it doesn't hit like a train.
