Yes, they always try to come out on top in every timeline. They are not naturally aggressive, but will eliminate anything that they determine to be a threat to their existence

Yep. They're a Hive Mind, so they really don't have any aspirations of their own. They just want the entirety of time and space under their thumb. Period.
-
But they're hostile due to provocations?

Edited by Dénué: 7/26/2017 6:43:57 AMAs another poster stated, you can thank Crota for that. In the Grimoire, Crota forgot to close the gate to the Ascendant Plane on a planet the Hive took. This led to the Vex wandering in, witnessing Sword Logic/Tithing and it's perks firsthand. Being a logical race, they decided to implement this themselves. This could possibly be the reason they have larger Vex units than Ground Units (Nexus Minds, Sol Prodginy, Atheon, etc...). Sword Logic/Tithing requires death to work, explaining why the Vex kill. That scene at the end of Vanilla Destiny's story, where you walk in to the area with the Heart of the Black Garden, is an example of them taking Tithing literally. The Vex are "praying" to the Heart, giving it power.

They're hostile because Crota

Edited by vitisku1: 7/26/2017 7:12:42 AMI think when it comes to the vex, "hostile" isn't even a correct description. They are not conquering or fighting for the sake of conquering. They simply have a known end goal so they proceed with their individual tasks to achieve that. Any event or individual in the way of that are problems to be solved, not enemies to be killed. That's why I think that the vex will be the penultimate enemy of the destiny franchise. They're like the Borg from Star Trek. There is no treaties to be made with them, no reasoning with them, nor is there hatred in their minds making them want to kill us. They have seen their end goal and are just working towards that. Tldr: it's easy to defeat a passionate, hateful enemy. Not as easy to defeat an enemy who doesn't perceive you as enemy, when they have no shortage of manpower, no shortage of resources, and cannot be swayed from the purpose as they have already seen the outcome. Edit: take into account this games title, "destiny". "Destiny" implies the future is predetermined. The vex are the only ones who have the ability to know their potential future, and are working towards fulfilling that pre-determined future for themselves. Everything else in the game is reactionary. The cabal are trying to conquer for personal gain, the hive just way to either kill or be killed to satisfy sword logic, fallen are just trying to survive and reclaim the traveller, guardians are just trying to defeat immediate threats. The vex are the only race trying to fulfill what they know to be their "Destiny".

But they also took upon sword logic just read when quaria entered their realm.
