I already decided marathon was gonna get a big FU from me long before this.
Plus does gaming REALLY need another snore of an extraction shooter, no. Wouldn't have appealed to most people anyway.

There was a lot of aspects that some people might consider boring to rpgs and even mmo's before Destiny came along.

Not everything is for everyone, I agree

Modifié par A_mo : 8/4/2024 12:23:29 AMYeah well, that's what this game was all about. Or at least that was the excuse that every person would give when they started debating. Then when your game was broken they'd say "not everything is for everyone" as if they had no idea that wouldn't be sustainable. There was never 10 million people playing this game at once and I'm not sure why pretending like there was was ever the case. Mostly talking about PvP, but after Final Shape all that gameplay boo boo started to be in other parts of the game. People might be stupid but they feel what they feel. And to quote Bob Marley, he who feels it knows it. I've now got a Bob Marley quote and a Tuition Monster video on the forums so I'm doing pretty well, considering.

Adversely there are really good game concepts that should draw players but never get off the ground because they didn't get enough exposure or there wasn't enough funding or many other reasons. Extraction shooters do nothing for me, I get tired of the same gameplay loop. Destiny 2 has several gameplay loops that get tiring too, but I found stuff I liked doing, triumphs, a couple titles, catalysts, the challenge of soloing some activities etc

Modifié par A_mo : 8/4/2024 12:39:27 AMBungie has a history of taking a certain genre and making it something people want to play though. So an extraction shooter may not be what we think of it as now after Marathon comes out, if Marathon is going to be an extraction shooter. There was a time where that would be the expectation. Like take this boring -blam!- genre and make it fun. Destiny 2 serves a broad conglomeration of basically every type of player. But in some places it does that by taking from some players and giving to others artificially. Over time that causes the game to seep players. Its pretty much been proven, that's what happened to PvP during Lightfall imho. Maybe people don't want to admit that, but that was about as good as sbmm could get for this game regardless of how many different angles they try to approach it from. That was about as smooth as a Destiny SBMM could get on P2P. And maybe even not on P2P because there's certain limitations that everyone wants to ignore with sbmm for the sake of being able to make stuff up.

Destiny didn't really reinvent PvP, they really just stole ideas from other genres and implemented them in destiny. Raids and dungeons from old school MMOs just in shooter form. Loot variation from other looter shooters like borderlands. Exotic armor allowing for build diversity, you will find this in many games that came before destiny, I've seen almost exact concepts in armor benefits in old school games like final fantasy 11 online way back 20 years ago. It was smart and drew a lot of players but not really anything that hasn't been done before. Could marathon be a game that redefines the extraction shooter genre and makes everyone want to play it? Anything is certainly possible. Can it still go F itself? Yes indeed it can

It didn't reinvent PvP at all really. The PvP carried over from Halo but with 6 players and a more hardcore approach. Kind of, there is the sbmm that softens things. The PvP of this game was far more like Halo than it is now all the way up until stasis or so. And even with stasis that was a pass for the guns to be strong and there to be cbmm as the matchmaking. They were at least trying to make the game the way it belonged to be back then. Then that stopped almost cooccuring with the death of calus and the rise of nimbus. I don't disagree that destiny was a combination of a lot of existing games but with a twist. That's somewhat what Marathon sounds like it will be.
