Tried to tell people. Been gaming since the 80's. My first experience with this shady type of business practice was a game called Defiance created by Trion worlds out of California. They did the same stuff, such as not fixing bugs, not patching exploits and not nerfing over performing guns, pay walling gear or essentials hard to find in game to make certain upgrades to weapons. Soon came a bunch of legal issues for said illicit practices and to weasel out of them they filed for bankruptcy and sold their games to Gamigo. Gamigo also had a pay wall practice and also promised a bunch of stuff that v they never came through on all the while saying big things were around the corner for Defiance while also making some small game improvements to get people to buy stuff while v thinking better days were too come only for v them to say a year layer that c they were pulling the plug. They used Defiance the same way Sony/Bungie is with Destiny; using it as a bankroll.

  • I did love playing defiance. It could have been an awesome game if they cared about it. Fighting giant bugs with 50 other people was so fun.

  • Reminds me of when EA bought up Origin Systems, they messed up the entire lore for the Ultima games with Pagan and Ultima IX Ascension, they put all their effort on Ultima Online and then they pulled the plug on it, kinda ironic that their client program is called Origin lol..

  • That describes every game I've ever played. They fix bugs for a short while, then move on to next project. It's business.

  • Would have been okay if they actually fixed the damn bugs. Bullets still don’t register after 10 damn years

  • Ditto: Grew up in the 80's with an Atari and my cousins with a Commodore (i old) Got burned by Defiance too - i don't care about the game so much but the actors from the tie in series got majorly burned by it - i think some didn't find more work after (unsure). The game was a great concept though failed to deliver so much of what was promised. I guess that's what we're seeing here - similar to Anthem - a waste of amazing potential, all destroyed by an exec-team who fudged the numbers to look good for a large investor. We know they missed revenue by 45% - Leadership team We know they cut jobs and not salaries - Leadership team We know Pay to win strategies have tried to be implemented - Leadership team and we know that management ignored community team suggestions - Leadership team All of these speak to upper management failures and given corporate culture means saving your job by blaming those under you, rather than taking responsibility for your own decisions and owning consequences for your own actions. This thinking pervades MOST corporations on the planet but game studios are more transparent and customer facing than say manufacturing or other industries and are thus more likely to be reported on. The responsibility for the loss of jobs at Bungie falls solely on the heads of those who over-promised revenue to their buyers. It's not Sony - whose money saved Bungie from insolvency. It's not the Dev's - making a game as good as they're allowed to and hoping not to get fired as thanks. It's not the customers (players) - who are stuck between loving a game and being worn out over its never ending corporate dramas. It is on the heads of the exec team (who at this point come across as little more than slave drivers, whips included) who ignored their Devs, Customers and Shareholders all in order to make a quick buck for what? So the rich guy can fill out his classic car bingo card? (also i'm sorry but, speaking as a petrolhead, his taste in old cars is BAD) In the past, with things like this, Bungie have been careful to control the narrative, to make it us (Bungie and customers) against them (Mickeysoft, Acti-Bliz, Sony) Bungie have repeatedly painted themselves as the lil guy against the big guy - we as humans appreciate this dynamic and will usually stand up to support the lil guy in any way we can, it's how most of us are wired... The exec team pointed fingers at anyone and everyone they could - the whole time ignoring and getting others to ignore all the fingers and signs pointing straight back at them. The only difference this time is that, regardless of the corporate "save my bacon" rhetoric, everyone can see through the finger pointing to the common threads that have been there through all the drama. The common threads who spend millions whilst their workers suffer.
