The big issue re Bungie is ‘trust’ or the lack thereof. Since D1, the few with their hands on the levers of power, systematically killed the goose that laid the golden Destiny egg.
The loyal and dedicated players across the Destiny universe told them time after time after time, that they needed to stop wrecking the game…all to no avail.
On the odd occasion when they did appear to listen, they were heartily commended…only to take two steps backwards, shortly thereafter.
Hubris…super inflated egos…rampant greed…these are the traits which BHQs MisManagement bods gloated and glorified their mastery of power and control. They were untouchable…infallible…Masters of the Destiny Universe…
Pete fiddled while Destiny burned…
How many good people (worker bees) were sacrificed on their altar of greed?
How many dedicated, loyal gamers, just walked away?
And the ones that stayed the course, hoping that BHQ would alter course and put Destiny back on track to fulfill its potential to be one of the truly G.O.A.T. games…we all could see it, but BHQ had a different agenda…as mentioned above.
This old tortoise has been around since way back…the rise of The Scarab Lord and his ilk, did much to harm the game…the Sunset debacle being the first hammer blow (imho)…and that’s when I left to become a Tenno (Warframe).
Sometime later…I returned on a wave of nostalgia after watching some old vids my son and I had made…when he was a nipper ninja Hunter! I was his wingman during his H.A.L.O. adventures…and Quake4 days - my favourite, and the first game I actually got right into. But, I digress…back to Destiny…
Since my return, I pootle about doing mostly vanilla stuff…completing unfinished Seals / Triumphs / Quests…delving into Trials for weapons and some bits of gear…and that’s about it. I don’t chase anything anymore…those days were the old days - before the Sunset debacle.
As an old tortoise, I know the Destiny worlds quite well…and, for the most part, I enjoyed them all…well, the bits that are still around…pootling about as I do…the amazing environments, the incredible gunplay, the fantastic ability to be in an instance with multiple players from around the world in virtual real time - was simply incredible, to me!
It still is!
The 12-man finale mission neatly closed the book for me. The silken binds were well and truly severed. My ten year compact was fulfilled. Now, I’m just marking time to see what Destiny does next…and here we are…at Pete’s Garage debacle…
FWIW: I do believe that D2 needs to be put on life support mode…whilst D3 plans are in the works and are announced. BHQ - now under new management via Sony, resets elements of D2 to include PvP maps / rotations, and PvE - to dial back the RNG nonsense and the stupid levels of difficulty…make D2 a welcome space for Guardians once again…build it, and they’ll come!
D3 - needs dedicated regional servers, powered via the latest technology and the best warp drive engine with future-proof upgrade capability built in. A properly structured PvP league. Full open and honest communication with players. Take the best bits from other successful franchises, eg, WarFrame, including - movement abilities / in-game trading / Fast Pass options - just like in ski resorts and theme parks; and maybe to explore a subscription based service that is fair and equitable to all parties. Most importantly - engage with the amazing Community of Guardians that have kept the lights on in D2 despite all of the difficulties experienced along the way.
Build it…and I’ll come. 👈

All I know is that there isn't an endless well of "normal people" for this game to draw from as it continues to get bigger and more complicated. Maybe if a new one starts there can be the endless well approach but the game started to burn at both ends, minus the top tier that didn't feel the burn as much until people started leaving. Its basically like both ends had to constantly be reminded of what the other end wanted but the middle ended up paying for most of it. A new approach is more than welcome as far as I'm concerned.
