So… is the name “the Fallen” a slur in the Eliksni language? Because every Eliksni acts so offended when someone calls them a Fallen
-
I don’t think it’s a slur, but it is seen as improper and disrespectful. It would kinda be like them calling humans monkey people or calling the cabal, space rhino/turtles; all of these terms aren’t exactly slurs but would be extremely offensive to both Cabal and Humans.

Not really. Prominent Fallen have said that compared to their height they have fallen a long way as a people. Cause it’s not the downgrade in tech that earned the name. It’s the fall from being an enlightened species to scavengers -blam!- to eating human children. The name is largely earned. House Light is comprised of members from the houses that committed atrocities. So the whole indignity over being called fallen is laughable. It’s a hilarious double standard. They act like changing houses wipes their slate clean but they love holding us all accountable for what we did to them ages ago by other Guardians. Just Bungie using the Fallen to make social commentary. Because it’s nothing but hypocrisy otherwise.

Yeah, they’re not a fan of being called that.

You have someone call your race “Fallen” just because you appear weaker than you are. Would you NOT be offended?
-
It's sorta like the N word. Humanity and Eliksni had a horrible first contact that tainted their relations for years. They probably have slurs of their own for Lightbearers but yes Fallen is a slur, a form of hate speech.

It's probably why we don't refer to House Light as "Fallen".
