Indeed, the Darkness was on their doorstep, the Pyramid outside was a testament to that truth. Variks shuddered. His heart throbbed with fear, with terror, not for himself. For Shadow. For his love. Last he knew she was at the Cosmodrone, working alongside someone from the Vanguard to secure a section of Old Russia. Variks had come here—to Europa—after his organization of the breakout at the Prison of Elders. To be separated from her felt like agony. His fingers twitched with the thought of his beloved Hunter. Another thought arose from his emotions, one that scarred him more than Eramis. Would Shadow accept the powers the Darkness offered? Would she command Stasis like Eramis Kell? What would it do to her? Variks heard something shift behind him, and when he turned he found that the capsule containing the splinter was gone, and there was the leftover dust of a transmat. "No!" He shrieked. The sound of Fallen outside made him start, their shadows filled the room. "VARIKS!" Eramis cried outside. His heart fell. He would not see Shadow again.
