Connection problem

Hello, For about a week I have not been able to play with other online players: When I want to start a PVE game with matchmaking either I find myself alone either it finds a game and a few seconds later it makes me quit and I receive an error code (different each time and none of the error codes answered to the problem). When I want to start a PVP game, the game finds no player. The only places I can meet other players are the planets and the tower. This surely does not come from my connection (average connection: ~30mb/s download and ~10mb/s upload), I can play other online games without problem (steam games or not). I also uninstalled and reinstalled the game, nothing has changed. I even tried to play the game on the same PC, with the same connection but with another steam account and it worked ... Thanks for the help.

  • Hello, thanks for all your help. So, I was connected by wire and I tried to connect wireless and it worked perfectly. But I still don't know where it came from.

Go to speedtest.net and click to change the server. Search Seattle, then look for and select Century Link. This is a close approximation to Bungie in Bellevue, WA... just a ccx Ross the lake from them, and Level3/Century link carries about 40% of the traffic coming off their network. As the test runs, watch the speeds closely. It will graph it as it goes along as well. It may ramp up real fast at the start because of buffering/bursting, but for the most part it should remain fairly constant or on a gentle slope. If the transfer is erratic, there may be a jitter problem with the latency... too much variance in the response times. In a game like D2 that is very sensitive to latency issues and doesn't do error correction via TCP (uses UDP), it can lead to dropped packets because packets may arrive too late (it may igore them if too far out of order). If there are big jumps in the transfer rates, there may be issues with buffering/congestion that is causing intermittent stalls in delivery (possibly even lost/retransmitted packets). This will definately present problems for D2. If tweaking your local network cannot smooth things out (go through the network guides in the help section), then your ISP will need to be brought on board to investigate the routes in play. If things are not moving smoothly but not "broken", you might be able to smooth things out a bit with QoS on your router. You can find out more about buffer bloating with the speedtest tool at dslreports.com. Basically, you set the transfer rate for a particular device right at or just below your actual sustainable throughput rate. The goal is to reduce the flood of data into the buffers in an effort to reduce the idle states.

Your upload and download don’t tell the whole story. What is your ping? What is your jitter? What is your dropped packets? Are you wired or WiFi? What kind of service do you have (cable, DSL, cellular, satellite, etc)? If it was a Bungie server issue, there would be more widespread issues with players. As already stated to you, Destiny requires much more strict and stable connections than other games so never compare online games to each other.

  • What is the error code? We need that to help you. Other games are not like Destiny it needs a very stable connection. How many people and devices are connected and use your connection?
