In the Destiny 1 lore it was actually explained that Mercury isn’t as close to the sun as it appears. When the Vex transformed it, they made it part of their timeline. Meaning that it doesn’t really exist in our timeline anymore, explaining why the sun position does not effect the inhabitability of the planet.

Grimoire, lore tabs, scannables, and dialogue...

I bet it would've been great if people could know about that piece of lore in destiny 2 eh?
Wait a -blam!-ing minute...
Even before the vex transformed it, it was safe. The traveler made it the garden world that we see in the past mercuries.

I’m just saying what I now from the D1 lore. We all know bungie isn’t very good at picking a story and sticking to it.

In D1, they specifically say he traveler terra-formed mercury, and the vex came AFTER the collapse. Something the traveler did prevented the solar storms, not the vex.
-
If they came after the collapse why is the traveler in the past Mercury then? If you go to an adventure that brings you to the past and look towards the sun you can see the travler
-
They also say that the reason you’re able to stand on the lighthouse without burning up in D1 is because of what I previously explained.
