Never, ever, should one's real life financial situation affect his ingame status.
That's a noble sentiment, but not particularly realistic, is it? Real life financial status affects your in-game status in all sorts of ways. Wealthy players are the ones more likely to be able to afford the game in the first place instead of having to borrow a copy or play at a friend's house. They can afford their own console instead of having to share with roommates or siblings. They can also afford aftermarket controllers, better TVs, headphones, a faster internet connection, and other hardware that provides a distinct in-game advantage. Someone who doesn't have to work a job to pay bills (i.e., students, NEETS, and the extremely wealthy) has a lot more time to play the game, allowing them the time to get better at the game and gain more (and better) items. Look, I'm just a volunteer forum moderator around here, not an official in any capacity, and please note that I'm expressing absolutely ZERO opinion on Eververse. I'm just saying -- I love the notion that real life financial status should not have any effect on in-game status, but it is just not realistic considering the way video games work in this day and age, and it makes an extremely poor basis for the argument that you're trying to make. Someone could use that same basis to say that students should be restricted from playing the game for longer than working folks can, or that the wealthy should be prohibited from purchasing a nice television. Those arguments sound ridiculous when you think about them, so what makes them any different from the argument you're making? And if this is truly the issue that you care about and want to remedy (though I suspect it is not), rather than complaining about consumables or starter packs for newbies, you should probably start by complaining about the things that ACTUALLY make a difference in game based on one's financial situation.

Does the principle of the idea not strike you as wrong though? To this dedicated player base that has poured so much of their time and lives into Destiny to make this game great and keep it alive? Consider this. Players with the Taken King? They got a much better polished game, with almost all of the content included from day 1, for 60$. Bungie now turns around and says, "hey, you wanna catch up to those higher level guys quicker? That'll be 20$." Not only does this new batch of players get such a much finer polished and complete experience than veterans, but they get to subvert all of that work to max out for throwing some extra money at the screen. The fact that someone can skip all of the time it takes to level 3 characters and all 3 subclasses by throwing more money at Bungie is a great slap in the face to everyone that has had to beta test this game for them for the last year. And it's not just the consumables, but the idea of Eververse to begin with. This game still has lingering issues with its core elements (for goodness sake, they just now after a month of the game being released, fixed the voice acting so it would actually work). Nightfall drops are once again, broken. Weapons aren't dropping at proper damage values (Looking at you Black Spindle). Subclasses are being exploited, and causing major disruptions to the current pvp meta. Rewards aren't being received for completing quests. And what is Bungie more concerned with? Their little cash shop. I have no sympathy for Bungie at this point, and cannot in anyway legitimately support Eververse. Bungie is absolutely pathetic when it comes to communication. They are downright sleazy, with the way they ignore, subvert, and dodge public opinion and feedback (until the news outlets start taking notice). This cash shop has been under so much cloak-and-dagger, that nobody within their right mind fully trusts it. And that's the reason why these consumables are wrong. Bungie cannot, and has in no way given the effort to show that they can be trusted with this business model. It also stands to prove that these "boosts" and "starter packs" are yet again, another way for them to spit in the faces of people that have worked hard for the gear and accomplishments they've earned over time. Where was our "starter pack" when we played the original destiny, and poured hours into our characters? Where were our boosters? (There were some, but don't act like they were ever as good as "fully upgrade a subclass"). We didn't have any, and so the principle of this issue remains. There were so many tactics this company used to pad out the time we spent in the original game so that we wouldn't leave. We got a sparrow, a shader and an emblem out of it. Us veterans have spent a whole year working on our Guardians. These "consumables", are a cheap, shameless cash grab from a company that has not yet earned the right to stick it's hand back out again to try and reach into our pockets. New players should earn their way to top level like the rest of us did, it does not take that long.

  • Tldr. If the micro shop was in the game at the begining would it be any different, you pay for consumables for xp and I dont, we can still play the same game with the same experience a year later in the third raid. Am I right. Think about it this way, all these noobs who will be buying these consumables and such do not get anything actually significant to the game. Woop do doo they leveled up faster but that does nothing for their skill in the raids. However that money they gave bungie on top of their purchase of the game will give us long time players much faster patches, updates, and free dlc. Small free dlc, but free dlc none the less. And guess what. None of those consumables do anything for us so we're not out the extra money. Noobs are.

  • The ONLY way a consumable would be ok is if it gave you an increased chance to acquire something NOT PERFORMANCE RELATED in game. Examples of this: 1) Increased chance to obtain raid shader 2) Increased chance to obtain faction ship 3) Increased chance to obtain upgraded sparrow (this one is dicey because it could effect PVE performance) There in NO way should ever be items like: 1) Increased XP gained 2) Increased chance of exotic weapon / armor / engram 3) Increased chance of raid gear drop The items in the second section have already been deployed in one way or another (both in-game and external to the game) and in my opinion haven't had much of an impact to viability of player progression. But as soon as you add it to the store, people with tons of money to burn will buy everything. Why is this a problem you ask? It's actually an issue not with the advantage it gives to the player, but it's an issue with the longevity of the game. What is left if someone has obtained all exotic gear and played all end-game content? They most likely leave...which has a negative impact on the community. I really hope Bungie takes seriously the impact consumables / weapons / armor could have on this game...it's a very slippery slope they're on...

  • or maybe there's a difference when you literally can use money to pay to win and buying a more expensive controler than someone else.... and the difference is... buying a controller does not automatically beat the game by throwing cash at the screen.

All those points you made are basically physical hardware aspects of the game that PLAYERS are in control of. In NO SHAPE, WAY, OR FORM should a DEVELOPER incorporate a paid advantage or system of content experience that can't be obtained through buying THE GAME ITSELF. I understand there are pay to play/win/rank options available in many games, but they came with that explicit knowledge at launch. People knew that existed in game before taking it home. Bungie is acting like a bunch of pancakes in a hot pan. Flipping this way, adding some spice here and there, over cooking one side. This crap is going to burn people out, regardless of whether you're a fanboy or not...because your average person is like a pancake too. This 10 year contract for the life of Destiny ISN'T going to last if 1. They don't correct their current trend of communication, 2. Keep pushing out seemingly untested content, and 3. Keep changing every damn element of the game at the whim of some crybaby casual. As for your opinion...pretty sure you should keep your mouth shut as long as you have that Ninja label next to your name. You may not be official Bungie payroll, but you are official Bungie voice. And unless you are helping someone, banning someone, or RESOLVING an issue and locking/closing/removing a thread...you have no place opining on anything, lest YOUR voice be taken seriously by those that gave you your power and responsibilities.

  • People are more concerned about the future of Ever verse, not what it has planned right now. But, it is possible for even little things like emotes to give advantages, although not worth complaining over. If there is an emote that is quick to do, people could use it to enter 3rd person mode to check around corners in PvP or PvE and peek snipe using that. That's just an example, but it shows that even the little things can provide a little advantage if used in specific ways. Like I said, it's more about what the future Ever verse has in store for us, not what they currently plan to roll out.
