Launch Model Xbox One owners are stuck with the launch hard drive.
Basically, we get to eat shit and like it. I'd like to think it doesn't matter too much, but it's still reassuring to know that our early adoption was rewarded with a pecker-slap to the face. We are never going to get this improved storage without buying an entirely new console.
External hard drives are a band-aid at best. They're a solution in the short term, but what are you going to do 8 years down the line when your internal hard drive will statistically fail? If the xbox one is still supported then you can spend money on service, but that's only delaying the issue. At some point, support is going to be dropped and your console is going to be worthless because the xbone OS is not available to the public. It's the same problem I have with the Wii U and its flash memory, though that should be working for longer than a hard drive will.
Thoughts?

So basically, you're complaining that if the hard drive fails, you don't get a free upgrade. I really don't see any solid argument on your side. You picked your console type, and a hard drive isn't a hard thing to replace. You don't get a free upgrade because hardware inevitably fails. Hell, if you'd like I'll point you to a 4 TB external that I have. Thing is flawless, and only costs 130.000.

or.. you could get some ifixit tools, pop the hood, remove the hdd, clone it to a new drive and replace the old one and then pop everything back in to place. it takes a 2.5" laptop [url=http://www.amazon.com/Blue-500-Mobile-Hard-Drive/dp/B0037NYQ6Q]hdd[/url] on a drive sled mounted to the mobo. people did it all the time on 360. worst possibility is it doesn't work or it flags you for a ban if you ever get cheating reports and the hashes don't match. it's cheaper than paying for a refurb from their support.

Thoughts? It makes sense from a business stand point to not give us a free system upgrade. I'm sure if you worked it out with Xbox representatives at support you could pay the difference and get an upgrade. It's ridiculous if you feel entitled to a better hard drive because you didn't get it

As an early adopter I knew this was a very real possibility. Very console since at least PS2 has eventually upgraded to a better, faster, Sleeker model. The trade off is I had all these great experiences as they happened like Titanfall at launch and all the cool updates. That's the trade off. Plus external hard drive support works fine. There are 3 sub ports on the X1 so you could have up to 15TB of memory. Also for me I'll probably get the Gears special bundle next year and give my kids my older one.

Side of effect of getting the first generation of Xbox One's. Granted an External Harddrive performs better then the stock 500 drive anyway, don't know about the speed of the 1tb versions out now that are out now. External drives are the way to go this generation to be honest, especailly on the Xbox One considering how we can't exactly effectively take it apart and slap in a new one and considering neither console has extra space inside to support another internal harddrive. If theres ever another Xbox One that'll allow us to do that upgrade freely, I'm sure that would be a consideration if people are willing to upgrade, but as it stands External Drives are the way to go.

I don't get what isn't common sense here... If your 500 GB hard drive needs to be replaced (assuming its still under warranty) they will replace it with a new 500 GB hard drive. Why would you get a 1 TB hard drive instead?

Hey dumbass, its called buying an external hard drive and plugging it in via usb. I have a 2tb that i got for $65 plugged in as i type.
